Well I for one would like to place on record my sincere thanks to Gary for uuum......um wait a minute...erm.....just a sec......umm......what was that love? Sorry the missus is calling.....what did you say love? Yeah they’re in the upstairs bathroom I think....well they were this morning I saw them....no I haven’t moved them, what the bloody hell would I want with a set of straighteners? What? Oh for fucks sake mun, I’m trying to write a few words for Madine here....what?... Gary Madine, plays for the City.....no he was shit....what was that love?.....six million quid......none....no, not one in two years....I know...well there was this one header and that pelanty wasn’t as bad as Hoillets like, at least he hit the target.

Although they got Alex Smithies on 30k a week. That can’t be right.
Smithies is supposed to be the highest paid player at the club. If true, no wonder there were rumours that he wanted to join us a good 12 months before he did.
£12K for Madine makes more sense, but still not big bucks by today's Championship standards. Like I said above, the salary figure does't include the lump sum incentive to join in the first place.
Madines contract would have had all sorts of clauses and extras in it. Some of which he's probably already trousered, others he will have let go as to not command a fee but I bet the City paid him his basic salary up to the end date to finish it early. An expensive mistake.
The reason that the Sala contract was rejected by the FA was because the signing on fee agreed was too high. I don't know what the rules are, but I reckon if a club is desperate enough to get someone in, and let's be fair, we were with both Madine and Sala, then they may well have to offer a bigger lump sum up front, maybe in lieu of salary.
No, but it might have been a few hundred thousand.
It was widely reported as being the reason why the Sala contract was sent back to City for amendment and resigning. Of course, the plane crash happened during the process and that opened the whole can of worms as to whether he was a contracted player.
The contractual thing is mentioned in this piece from May and I am sure that more information came out later.

Well this has to be the biggest failure of the so called ‘transfer committee’ doesn’t it.
After the criticism that Malky got for the Cornelius deal, perhaps now Tan understands that football transfers are not an exact science.
