You pointed out all their negatives, never got nothing positive to say.

Hoillett, NML and Murphy are good wingers for this level and both Hoilett and Murphy can play behind the striker too. It didnt go unnoticed Murphy had some of his best games for a us post lockdown without the fans there to get on his back. Maybe if fans were more supportive instead of complaining what players cant do instead of what they can do then it will give the confidence players more confidence to become more consistent.

Then again, this is a fanbase that once booed Peter Whittingham so I wont hold my breath.

Our fans don't appreciate flair players but would take a Gavin Whyte all day long cause he tracks back.

HIs confidence was shot to bits with his OWN fans booing him.

He got booed because people could see he didn’t want to be here and was making zero effort. That game against Palace he was a fucking disgrace and an embarrassment to himself and the shirt.

An egotistical diving billy big bollocks wanker who’d rather be a big fish in a shitty little pond than prove himself at a higher standard.

We all know what their positives are, didn't think I needed to point out the bleeding obvious though. Murphy did put in some good performances but also some poor ones without a crowd too - again, it's consistency. I get your point about booing players - I've never done that, support when playing - but you're talking about a 25 yr old there who has struggled his entire career with putting in consistent performances. I don't get that it's somehow wrong on a forum devoted to discussing the cub and players to point negatives out? I've rationalised my feelings about Ojo by looking at his history which is a good indicator of future performance most of the time. WalesOnline would no doubt tag him as "Liverpool superstar" which then heightens expectations. I'm honest that my expectations for him are low - I fear we'll see some good tricks, some good performances and also poor ones. If my fears aren't realised then fantastic.

Never booed Whitts. I think the decision to drop him was imo the right one, his performances had declined and his stint at Blackburn showed the decline was a pretty big one.

Despite the fact that most fans are saying that Whyte isn’t good enough for this level?

Despite the fact that most fans have recognised that Tomlin was our best player last season?

Fair play, you really do talk some bollocks.

You need both types of player though.

Murphy might be a flair player on his day, sadly we don't see enough of those given his talent, but his failure to track back in the semi at Fulham cost us.

The whole club was toxic at the time even Tan booed.

My point is some of our fans like workhorse players rather than some players with ability cause they dont fly into tackles or track back all the time like Whitts half the time in his later years he was harshly criticized for the same thing they wouldnt be playing for us if they had ability and the work rate to go with it but some of our fans dont get that.

You cant just blame it on one individual Fulham were simply better than us and some dodgy refereeing aswell it just wasnt meant to be.

Respectfully disagree. You need a balance of the two types. As great as whitts was, the last year or so he was with us he'd noticeable declined.

The modern game has advanced dramatically. Before, wingers hugged the touchline, got crosses in, stayed in opponents half. Now? Play on side of "wrong foot" so they can cut in. Modern full backs have also advanced - getting forward often regarded more highly than defending at times.

If a winger dosn't track back in the modern game, then the full back is exposed to wide player with ball, full back overlapping forming a two on one.

That is exactly what happened at Fulham. Some blamed Bennett - Bennett was stuck facing wide player and full back as Murphy didn't track back; Bennet did the right thing, stood up, tried to force the wide player inside where he;d expect halp. If he'd committed then the right back was in all acres of space.

Years ago you could carry flair players but you needed the rest of the team to pull their weight for them. the modern game is too quick, too powerful for that and tactical innovations mean skill and workrate are needed. I think someone like a Matt Le Tissier would struggle in the modern game.

I'm not blaming it on one individual. I'm saying that Murphy not tracking back cost us a goal against. It's ironic because elsewhere many blamed Bennett for that goal...

We'd got momentum at that point so who knows....

Is it? One of the staples of the modern game is full backs getting forward. What should a team do to counter that - keep wingers forward, hope to nick the ball and expose the space or have the wingers track back?

Do the former, you expose your own full backs to the numbers game, allowing overlaps or do the latter, match the number of attackers?

He would have the skill, 100%. The problem is you'd need to build the side entirely around him. I remember the League Cup game where he barely moved from a 5m area in our half and scored a sublime hattrick. I just think the modern game is quicker with far more emphasis on pace and movement, which wasn't his game at all. I just don't think he'd fit the top level of modern football that well.

Any player that has got a good footballing brain like Le Tiss would be good in any era like Bobby Charlton he was slow asf but his brain was always 3 steps ahead of anyone else no matter how quicker the game has moved on they would still be as good they are footballing greats for a reason they can play in any era.

To blame that goal on Murphy not tracking back is really going some. I just watched the goal to remind myself. Vaulks pressed his man high up the pitch along with Murphy pressing their full back whilst Ralls was caught in a bit of no mans land and Marlon Pack went to ground leaving the 2 v 1. Even then Morrison should probably have stopped the cross. It was a poor goal to concede all around, not down to 1 player.
