The point is this. India is completely nationalistic. It is a hotbed of nationalism. All the Indian Government cares about is making its country look like a world leader. That means, images of kids prostituting themselves to foreigners are hidden, never discussed. It means that the real poverty (where British aid actually does good things) is not even addressed.

India has a class system where people in a higher class can, legtimately, treat people below them like dirt. I seen this myself where we had a new Indian lad join us, and an existing Indian lad was really treating him like crap. Until, suddenly, they realised the new Indian lad was above him in the class system.

India spends billions on nuclear bombs and space programs because these are the things that they want you to know about their brilliant, fantastic, cesspit of a country. India needs aid because they don't give a shit about hundreds of millions of people.

The latest mess is a direct result of this nationalism. They claimed it was beaten. They even claimed that Indians had a natural immunity, which meant they wouldn't get sick, which meant they wouldn't die. The evidence, low death figures that don't include thousands of people dying in shanty towns hidden under the bustling super highways.

India, like China, is run by crazy tossers and the reason we send aid is because of all that. But, the UK Government needs to call India out on all this.

Trust me, Indian folk are proud of their country and the ones I know fall for all the bullshit. They also don't like to talk about the sleazy world that exists. If they don't talk about it, then it isn't happening.

The interesting thing is, I always thought the caste system was the Indians trying to fit in with the British rulers. But, like you say, it has been in place for a real long time. In saying that, every society has a form of class really - the Indian one is a bit outdated in a world where most of the clever ones migrate to the US or UK as skilled workers. The British can be blamed for loads of things in India, but not the caste system
