Drameh closing in on Cardiff move​

Cardiff City are hopeful of completing a loan move for Leeds United starlet Cody Drameh this week.

WalesOnline understands talks to take the 20-year-old on loan have made significant progress over the last 48 hours, and the youngster is now poised to undergo a medical in south Wales.

Sources close to the deal have indicated that there isn't an option or obligation to buy at the end of the season, and that it would be a straight loan until the end of the current campaign.

It's understood there had previously been some hesitation over the move, with Leeds boss Marcelo Bielsa currently facing something of a defensive injury crisis.

Indeed, Drameh was called upon from the bench during the weekend's FA Cup clash with West Ham United, following a suspected concussion to Junior Firpo.

Sources in west Yorkshire had subsequently speculated that Drameh may yet be kept on to give Bielsa more options ahead of the second half of the season.
But while stressing there are still some loose ends to tie up on the deal, club insiders are increasingly hopeful that the former Fulham academy graduate will make the move to the capital this week.

Former Premier League ref slams big Preston call​

Cardiff benefited from a refereeing howler during their FA Cup third round win over Preston North End.

That's according to former referee Keith Hackett, who claims City's Curtis Nelson was guilty of a handball at the end of extra-time.

Andy Woolmer, the man in the middle at the time, waved away appeals for a Preston penalty, instead awarding Cardiff a free-kick for an alleged push from Ched Evans.

Speaking to Football Insider, Hackett explained that he felt it was the wrong call.

“That is handball every day,” he said when analysing the incident.

“Is it because there are no fans in the stadium that he’s lost a bit of concentration, or, it might be fatigue because they were in extra time.

“It wasn’t a foul the other way. It was a penalty.

“We talk about physical fatigue but there is also mental fatigue. He got it wrong, it was a penalty kick.

“I’m not giving him any excuses, it’s a nonsense. It’s a clear handball. He’s made himself bigger, the referee’s in a good position and got it."

Cardiff are now set to play Liverpool in round four.

Young Bluebirds slip to defeat​

Cardiff's under-23s slipped to a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Ipswich Town at Leckwith on Tuesday.


After a tightly-contested first half, the visitors took the lead through Cameron Humphreys, who fired home from the edge of the area on the hour.

Despite pushing for a leveller, and being denied a penalty shout when James Crole was brought down in the box, Ipswich secured the victory ten minutes from time, with Bailey Clements popping up inside the box to slot a cool finish past goalkeeper George Ratcliffe.

Leeds United were initially reluctant to let Cody Drameh leave on loan in the ongoing window but the Whites starlet and his agent pushed a move through, with Cardiff City lined up as his destination,​

The highly-rated right-back made his Premier League debut for Leeds earlier this season and boss Marcelo Bielsa has been banking on him to step up in the first team whenever it was necessary.

Leeds have had to deal with injuries to a number of players this season and Drameh, along with his fellow Leeds Under-23s stars, has played crucial role under the Argentine.

The defender has attracted interest from several Championships sides in the ongoing window, including Cardiff, but Leeds were initially reluctant to sanction an exit for the player owing to their injury situation.

However, Cardiff have won the race for Drameh’s signature and are now set to seal a loan deal with a medical set for Wednesday.

Even though Leeds were initially against sending Drameh out on loan, he and his agent held talks with the club’s hierarchy and managed to push through an exit.

The 20-year-old is keen on clocking up regular senior minutes at this stage of his career and chose Cardiff as the right club to spend the rest of the season.










Leeds see Drameh playing a role at the club in the long-run and will be hoping his loan spell at Cardiff will help him raise his game.

Unless there is a very strong link, I honestly don’t think these sort of things make any difference at all. As far as leeds and the player are concerned it’ll be down to what’s best for them. The fact Morison used to play for them would have no bearing on it imo.

Interesting one about the ref and blatant penalty. All I can say is there did not seem to be much complaint from Preston players when a free kick was awarded, therefore Evans may have given Nelson a nudge.though not enough to give a free kick IMO. saying thst what the fuck was Nelson doing with his arms in that position

Leeds would only send the player to a club which can meet Leeds criteria and demands for the player. If Cardiff don't meet these requirements then, of course, they wouldn't send him here. But , most likely, there will be a number of clubs that can meet the criteria - a short list, if you like. That's when relationships and things like trust come into play. It is the same in any business decision.
