I read it as describing Tories who are using veterans to bolster their thin argument and tug on some heartstrings as being like the BNP

No - what I am saying is that Tory politicians are politicising veterans in much the same way as the BNP did - it is lip service pure and simple. It's a bit like the "why do we allow refugees in when we have homeless veterans". It's a tactic to attack refugees or immigration, but the parties spouting it are still not doing anything for veterans, in other words, they are using veterans as a tool to pass on a message.

Apologies @SJB, I can see why I needed to clarify that and reading it back it looks like I am accusing the vets of being BNP. Hopefully this clarifies it. None of these parties really give a flying eff about veterans. It's a ploy to get the "patriot" vote.

In the background he's muttering "no sorry for the veterans. poor veterans. can't have their day out." without looking like he has any fight left in him.
