A left back who had been a trainee with Manchester City, where he had signed on in August 1992. While with Manchester City, he had also spent time at the F.A. school in Lilleshall and also won a place in the England Youth Squad, but despite this pedigree never managed a first team appearance before signing for City. His one season with the club was notable for the fact that he was ever present in the League and the long F.A. Cup run that season, but despite some impressive performances, manager Frank Burrows decided on releasing him. He was quickly back into the game though, as he signed for Rotherham United, where he occupied the same left back spot, making 55 League appearances for them, scoring once, until he moved on to Doncaster Rovers in December 2002, where his manager was ex-City midfielder, David Penney. He made 17 appearances in the Vauxhall Conference that season, culminating in the play off win that won back League status for Doncaster Rovers in May 2003.
