Season 1941-42 - Wartime competition and friendlies

South Wales becomes a recruiting ground for the armed forces campaigns in the Far East, so Cyril Spiers loses many of his most reliable and promising players. However, he works tirelessly on behalf of the club to keep things together, putting different sides together on a weekly basis. He manages to use many contacts and friends to keep abreast of the situation regarding the availability of professional footballers stationed with the armed forces locally and a number of famous names make fleeting appearanaces. Johnny Carey, Raich Carter, Allenby Chilton and Benny Fenton all wear a Cardiff City shirt during the season when a total of 52 players are used. Another couple of famous names make a debut, Alf Sherwood and Ken Hollyman. Billy James enhances his reputation further when he plays a couple of wartime internationals against England, and scores in one of them.
