Keith Downing

A midfield player who had been spotted in non-league football playing for Mile Oak Rovers, by Notts County, who signed himin May 1984. He played 23 League matches for Notts County, scoring one goal, before moving on to Wolverhampton Wanderers in August 1987. He had his best footballing days there, becoming a popular peformer there, to the tune of 6 seasons, 191 League appearances and 8 goals. A free transfer to Birmingham City in July 1993 followed, where he joined a struggling club, and just made the single League appearance there, after which he was released to join Stoke City in August 1994. He just made 16 League appearances for Stoke City before City invited to sign on. His arrival coincided with the difficult early months of the 1995-96 season, when City, having signed him, promptly decided to dispense with his services shortly afterwards, possibly for finanacial reasons. After joining Hereford United, he played in their side that was relegated from the Football League at the end of the 1996-97 season, at which point he was released having made 45 League appearances for them.
