Cardiff City Player Record

Mark Farrington

A forward who had been an apprentice at Everton but despite an impressive series of displays in the Everton Youth team that reached the F.A.Youth Cup final in 1983, he was not offered professional terms by them and opted to join Norwich City in May 1983. He played 14 League matches for them and scored 2 goals, also making a 10 match loan move to Cambridge United in which he scored once. A free transfer signing, once he had been released at the end of the 1984-85 season, he spent his only season in one of City's worst ever teams before being shown the door by manager Alan Durban for an unspecified 'breach of discipline'. He went onto Portsmouth but left League football without making any further appearances. After the trial with Portsmouth was unsuccessful he tried his luck on the continent. Dutch sides Willem 11 Tillburg, Fortuna Sittard and Feyenoord all used his services as did German side Hertha BSC Berlin. A return to Britain came in 1991 when he joined Brighton and Hove Albion. The 1997-98 Norwich City club handbook reported that he was playing for Runcorn in the Unibond Northern League and had applied for the vacant manager's position but had not been successful in getting the appointment. He then moved on to Telford. He was last heard of living in Bristol, from where he travelled in September 2002 to attend the Norwich City centenary celebrations.
