Everything from landing and aircraft parking fees to security, luggage handling, check-in fire and policing. You name it. The list goes on and on. Some things we are cheaper than our neighbouring airport, but there's quite a few things the Airport chooses (or can't be) cheaper on

That really is immense news for CWL.

They also take a lot of freight back and forth, so we'll hopefully see some new and expanded related business springing up around the airport to handle it.

You might even see a small reversal of trade involving people from Bristol / the South West using CWL for long haul flights to the far east / Australia / New Zealand with the new connections available, if the prices are right.

Bristol can't offer those options as their runway is too short. Plus they're in a terrible location for fog which means they often get diverted to CWL.

Also, Brizzle Airport is one of only 2 without ground avoidance radar.

Actually the fact that it’s a 24hr airport is another advantage it has over Bristol

Just a shame Bristol is much cheaper with loads more short haul options.

I really want Cardiff Airport to be a success and don't mind paying a small premium for it but almost every time the costs or logistics just don't stack up.

Is it a chicken and egg situation though?

The few million more passengers flying from the Slave Traders Carrot Crunching Aerodrome must surely mean they can lower their prices, which in turn attracts more passengers etc etc

I always live to hear from @Costa Coffee Crew on these matters, as he is our bona fide Cardiff Airport expert.

Although I have to say, I really did like that idea of a Severnside Airport built on reclaimed land in the Bristol Channel near Llanwern.

Would close both Bristol and CWL (to passenger / charter flights at least) and would merge the two in a purpose built, mega hub.

Was it Peter Hain who proposed it, or am I imagining things?
