Well, here's the thing. For all the scaremongering, those claiming workers rights will go down the pan conveniently ignore British maternity leave for example is far beyond the minimum EU level. Surely the evil government would've cut it to the bare minimum as proscribed by EU law at the time, right? Or does that example undermine the claims?
You’ll be hard pressed to find any example of anyone claiming maternity rights would be going downhill like that

But I thought evil government were going to cut workers rights? There's one that is quite costly, so surely evil government bowing to greedy companies would've cut it, right? Could've cut to EU minimum levels, right?

Well, I for one am very pleased to see you championing something introduced by a Labour government in conjunction with the trade unions.

Well, hardly championing, using it as an example where the allegedly evil government could cut rights yet were over and beyond EU minimum standards, could've cut at any time.

Why would you think that when no-one suggested it would happen to maternity allowance?

I see what you are saying

Yet another thing that the EU didn’t dictate to us

A point well made

EU mandated minimum standards, so yes they did... member states could go above.

But you knew that already.

I see so what you are saying is

We used to have high standards backed up by a minimum level safety net should anyone want to lower them (which no-one has suggested)

Now we have high standards with zero safety net

And that’s a good thing

Gotcha

EDF are a bunch of muppets too. I gave them a meter reading yesterday and they gave me a bill today. I'm £83 in credit which they've refunded into my bank account *and* they've increased my monthly bill by £16 a month. Don't they understand how budget accounts work? Overpay in summer & underpay in winter. Shower of bastards.
Is what happens when you let Foreign French c**ts decide how warm you are.

Nope, I'm saying that, for those claiming government wanted to destroy workers rights, that was an area where they provided rights above what they legally had to... which craps all over the bs spouted. The fact those rights were kept well above EU minimum is telling.

I see

So what you’re saying is the fact that the U.K. has decent maternity in terms of weeks (quite poor in terms of how many weeks you have to take though), this can be taken a guarantee that no degradation of workers rights in other areas, or indeed in other areas of employment law relating to maternity, will take place in the future?

That’s the guarantee right?

Popped to Asda last night, the fruit & veg section was like shopping in Russia. Got my regular tesco shop coming tomorrow, stuff like broccoli & green beans unavailable.
