I'm only familiar with Danny Thompson from an album he did with Richard Thompson (no relation) called Industry (but about it's decline and the way it decimated communities). It's really good and he has some haunting instrumentation and double bass in it.

He worked with many, many groups and singers, I first saw him on the OGWT back in the 70’s, Thompson is another of my favourites I’ve seen him 4 times in Cardiff

I've seen him 3 times. Best one was in the Bay in a beautiful church with great acoustics. Got shit down by yuppies who moved in and complained about occasional gigs there
