We're a club with a history that a lot of clubs might envy, a passionate fanbase with a potentially large catchment area, a decent stadium that can have its capacity increased if needed, an ambitious youth academy and fairly recent Premier League experiences.

Is that enough to make us a true sleeping giant? If not, what clubs are?

Heard it all my life been watching the City for over 50 years so it's a no from me ! Teams like Sunderland,Sheffield Wednesday and the likes are far bigger than us ? On a good day we could 50 to 60 thousand but don't think we could do it on a regular basis ?

I think the two PL stints, where the ground had seats empty until Man U/Chelsea Liverpool matches show that South Wales is football mad, but not prepared to be local club mad, or club bouncing up and down a few times bad.

If we were top of the PL, we'd be pulling in fans from London, just as Man U, Man C and even Blackburn did for a few years.

I reckon any club with a 60,000 seated stadium will sell out every match if they are top of the PL. Whether that's Man City, Cardiff, or Dagenham and Redbridge.

The one thing that is good, though, is our fan base is definitely growing. 11,000 tickets sold already, after a few years of dross. Good pricing helps. I can't help but feel we'll never be a 40,000 every match club - but neither are Sunderland who are probably a bigger side than us.

We clearly have huge potential, I have no doubt that sustained top flight success would see us easily fill a 40,000+ stadium week in week out. I wouldn’t say a sleeping giant, just a very tall man, say Greg Davies, Yes, that’s us, Greg Davies. In a coma.

I think we have a hard-core support of around 20,00 .As seen in our two brief stints in the top flight it brought in the fair weather support who quickly disappeared after the second relegation. We have to face the fact we arnt a very good product on and off the pitch .If we are a sleeping giant we'll need a major wake up call to rise this giant :bluebird:

Hard core support requires sustained success to increase. Our current hard core support is a lot higher than our hard core support was in 1990. If we could get promoted and stay in the top flight for say 10 years, our hard core support then rises to say 25,000, if we then got relegated, we would lose a lot less than we did we’ve gone down after a single season.

I always thought wewere a sleeping giant… back in the early 90s…

Now, I’d say we were a medium to big sized club. Comparable with wolves/leicester/derby/southampton.

it’s a shame really that we were never able to maintain a few consecutive seasons in the top flight.

This is what it’s all about isn’t it. People go on about the likes of Newcastle, Man City, West Ham’s support when they’ve been relegated, but they never stay down long enough to lose significant support. We spent decades in the dungeon. It takes time to rebuild and keep that support.

I think we’d need a generation of sustained success. Fathers passing down their support to the kids, with enough of a draw to avoid their offspring supporting Liverpool et al.
