I sat next to him and Mick Mills (they worked together at Ipswich) at a Footballer of the Year dinner in the Cafe Royal in London.
They hardly said a word all night whilst I got steadily ratted. To be fair to them, I think they were a bit overawed to be sitting next to me.

I had a mate (still have) who was a journalist covering Premier League games and he'd go away to cover the England cricket team in the winter who'd ask me to all sorts of functions. Lots of storiesyabout that one including meeting Alan Durban. I said "I'm from Cardiff". He said "Hard luck!"
