Always thought laverbred was a bit forced outside of small areas of rural Wales so surprised by this. Probably came into it's own during the war though with rationing

The Workhouse at St Mellons.

It is not recorded when the workhouse was established but it was a significant building dating back to at least the turn of the 18th century, It was used for services for the Baptist church until a dedicated chapel was established and after the poor law reforms was used to house and establish the St Mellons school.

When I was a youngster in the seventies, I had no idea what was hidden behind the cladding; we were too busy trying to persuade the ticket cashier (without success) that we really were old enough to see films like Rollerball.
