Football Rambo retires

Not sure if Wales hooligans went out there but normal fans were being terrorised
They bashed up a load iof scarffers walking through the park near the stadium. They went to the hotel with the book and called out all the names in it. I weren't there at the time as I was having a lie down. Heard different stories as to who did what. I reckon most would have just shit themselves tbf. I wouldn't even blame them.

But, when he left us.

Fair play.

Now he's retired, we're just another club. I'd have thought a club close to his heart would at least have been named.
in fairness ,when he was interviewed at a golf comp a few weeks back he was asked to name his two favourite football teams and his two most hated.

A friend was out there and they had fireworks fired at them and their van shaken the hell out of. Didn't get a hiding but they said it was very dicey out there.

Russians were right cunts in Moscow I heard
they came into the hotel looking for the soul crew and arranged 30 onto 30 outside the hotel. more like 30 onto 300 but the Russian police brutalised them to be honest. they still assaulted ordinary people including couples. anybody welsh was fair game to them. Out in italy the biggest threat was them riding by on their scooters slashing people sat at tables and once again anyone was fair game

A few older boys got beaten up and robbed in Gorky Park. The police truncheoned the Wales fans when they came to break it up. Taxis turned their meters off and just made up fares and a few lads got locked in pubs by the bouncers until they paid to get out. Like I say I weren't there but I knew most of the City fans who had a bit about them back then they and they all said it was lairy.

I've been to Moscow and it's a brilliant city but I'd have to think hard whether it was worth risking for football. Their police are incredibly corrupt - law and order enforced by the military who can be heavy handed and following political orders. That was twenty odd years ago but doesn't sound like it's changed much

Unless you were English :hehe:
That was Marseilles. Tbh I was bricking myself a bit to start in Toulouse and on high alert as worried we might get same treatment.

Saw no bother at all and the few Russians we encountered were very magnanimous.

Highly likely the scenes in Marseilles were state sanctioned and encouraged/assisted for propaganda purposes. Luckily they realised beating us up wouldn't be a good look

Would they have done the original shit but for our wonderful lads reputations and bragging about hooliganism?

Probably not.

Russian hooligans are a nasty bunch anyhow. When I was in Moscow they had a game against Georgia - we were keen to go - but warned by locals it would be very high risk as a lot of horrible bastards used the football as an excuse for aggro.

TDA Jnr was at Moscow University 2001-2002 with his year group from Leeds University. It was a pretty terrifying time for a group of 19 year olds. Apart from having to have cash for every day bribes, each of the students carried a card with diplomatic contacts to give to the police whenever they were stopped, which was frequently. The cards carried some sort of a warning to the police to lay off the students and apparently were effective.

I know that he was threatened at knifepoint at least once, certainly on the train back from watching Locomotiv play Real Madrid when it was picked up that they were Brits.

I also know that he has never told me the everything that went on in that year. Occasionally I will get something along the lines that the students were confined to their apartment block for three days as it was too risky to go out on Hitler's birthday as the far right groups were out looking for foreigners to attack.

We went out for a week to see them and I can confirm that it was a bloody horrible place.

2nd year of 4 year Russian degree and to be fair both universities looked after them very well, but part of the stay was to absorb the culture and practice the language.

So.... your sons a no good commie spy?

I can understand the culture and language, but when it's so dangerous out there for non Russians, especially Brits... to be fully safe, wouldn't be experiencing much.

It was 24 years ago and they experienced plenty!

He finished his degree, but had no further interest in pursuing a career.

On a trip to Moscow me and my friends were held up at knifepoint by a gang who took our wallets and phones (lucky we had our passports in our socks) then later that night we got another gang throwing rocks at us from motorcycles. But once we got out of London and flew to Moscow we had a great time.
