Given that those without Sky normally watch S4C coverage of Wales' games, I was wondering how viewing figures would be affected when a free English speaking alternative was offered.

Seems to me that despite complaints about the bias towards England from the BBC/ITV pundits, people are still sticking with those channels.

And you're surprised that people are preferring to view a broadcast in a language they understand? I don't know what you're driving at here.

I think that S4C missed a trick by not offering alternative English commentary (red button). I am sure that their audience share would have been higher.

I think (certainly a condition for showing games that are on Sky) that they can only provide Welsh commentary. I'm pretty sure I've seen red button English commentary for Welsh Premier League games.

Thus far I've watched all the games out and with the sound off. If it was my choice I'd go for S4C every time - no being patronised and the shift of focus onto England and a chance to keep my Welsh in decent nick.

I am sure that you are right about Sky, but given that this tournament is broadcast free to air, I wonder whether that might still apply.

l watch with the sound off,so any channel will do,hopefully when crowds return next season there will be a choice of crowd noise but no commentary

S4c is funded by the BBC and advertising (I think ITV chuck in a few quid now and then too). I suspect they wouldn't be allowed to compete.

BTW, ITV didn't show a single Wales game in 2016 until the semi-finals. Of the 8 Wales games in 2 tournaments so far, ITV have shown 1.

So, on Sunday, I will be watching the S4C channel with the Radio Wales commentary - even though I have a huge hatred of BBC Radio Wales, it isn't as bad as ITV.

I can’t believe the Welsh language is so offensive to some people’s ears on here they can’t bear to hear it. You live in Wales but are too fucking tight to fork out for Sky so watch a Welsh broadcast but are iffy about it being in Welsh. Lol. Only in a country that’s ruled by another one would you get such apathy towards your own heritage.
