Cardiff City have made initial contact to sign 24-year-old Elfsborg centre-back Ibrahim Buhari as they prepare for their return to the Championship under Brian Barry-Murphy.

Key Details:

-The Competition: Portsmouth, Lincoln City, and Turkish club Kasimpasa have also enquired about the Nigerian defender. More clubs are expected to join the race.

-Contract & Status: Buhari is in the final six months of his contract. Having made just one league start this season, a summer exit is highly likely.

-Player Profile: A strong and athletic former Nigeria U-23 international, Buhari joined Elfsborg in 2022 and has made 76 appearances.

Cardiff's Angle:

The Bluebirds are looking to make several additions for their Championship campaign. They already have a recent track record of success in the Swedish market, highlighted by striker Yousef Salech's 24 goals in 63 games.

Elfsborg's asking price for Buhari currently remains unconfirmed.

City certainly need a more commanding physical presence at CB. The last player we had of that type was Cédric Kipré.

The one start doesn't sound very promising

I can’t see us signing another CB unless BBM is planning to play Chambers in the Wintle role

Chambers may be on his way to reduce the wage bill.
He's probably on £30k plus - he was a big old name for this division when we brought him in and we probably thought that summer we were going to be at least a playoffs side.

That went well.

That would be a sound enough decision imo. He's a good player for us but probably not worth his alleged wages especially as he's not a guaranteed starter. Not sure there will be other clubs lined up to pay what we're allegedly playing him though

I think he is comfortably the highest earner in the squad.

I’ll trust BBM’s judgment, we could do with a bit more physicality. We got bullied on occasions last season.

Also, the last player we signed from the Swedish league didn’t turn out too bad

Both Fish and Osho can be physical enough. Kipre's strength was immense but he was clever enough to rely on technique and the threat of his power most of the time. A classy player

Well yeah Wintle gone mate so somebody will have to play in his place
Yeah it’s called midfield. I know Wintle had a good season but not quite good enough to have a position named after him.
:hehe:
