Interesting that our two best players at the moment (Ampadu and Wilson) have developed into top players since they stopped being dicked around by big clubs year after year and found regular football.

The worst thing promising youngsters can do these days is get a move to one of the big clubs and then spend years being loaned out. If (when) Lawlor goes hopefully he’ll end up at a club like Brentford, Villa or Fulham rather than a Chelsea or Liverpool.

Completely agree but if the big clubs are offering mega wages you'd be a brave player to take a long term view when you can get injured or sidelined pretty quick wherever you are. Wilson's next move will be interesting

Of course players will always be tempted by the biggest pay packet but hopefully the next crop of youngsters will look at the likes of Wilson and Ampadu and realise there’s a choice to be made when it comes to how your career could go.

The argument about a footballer’s career being a short one works both ways. Of course they’ve got to think about financially securing their future but for every David Brooks there’s a Ben Woodburn. Sometimes the big money comes at the expense of your career.

I don't dispute what you're saying at all but understand the logic of footballers thinking they have to go for the biggest team genuinely interested.

Even Woodburn had some pretty good loans because he was at a bigger club.
