James Clavell writ some good books, Shogun, epic tale, I was almost fluent in Japanese by time I finished it, could order sushi with the best of them. Tai Pan I seem to remember as being a rewarding read. King Rat I read, but it hasn't left a lasting memory, and Noble House, about three billion pages I bought but never finished. So, two good 'uns, the rest I never bothered with. You can get the lot for a snip, just under £3,000.

I have read them all and seen all the film and TV series adaptations, except the most recent re-make of Shogun. King Rat was the best.

Shogun (2024) - Is it any good? Where was it shown (I know it wasn't Apple or Prime)?

Think it was on Disney. It was good but not great. Looks amazing and you learn about some of the history and culture but pretty formulaic. Doesn't help that the lead actor is very much a BTEC Tom Hardy. Has it's moments and worth watching but people I know who have read the book were a bit disappointed

Thanks - haven't got Disney, so would have to pass anyway. The Doctor Kildare version will be it for me!

The Godfather is a great book. Much better than the film which is brilliant also.
I was thinking that. At risk of being Garth Crooks’d, I was 15, on my own in Madrid for two weeks, went to a bookshop and literally the only English language book was The Godfather.
Read that book so many times it fell apart years ago.

I mostly read stuff from Lee Child,John Grisham, James Patterson and Michael Connelly. Think I’ve read pretty much everything Stephen King ever wrote.
These days I like Richard Osman and his “Thursday Murder Club” books, but then again I’m an old codger so probably no good for you youngsters.

Of mice and men was one of my favourite books.

Also "not a penny more not a penny less" by Jeffrey Archer is a top read.
