Unlucky Nuggles I made the official one :hehe:

2p cut in NI then. Cos the last one really made a difference :hehe:

Pathetic.

Let’s just have this GE shall we

They have even cocked up on giving bribes.

Income tax is easy for people to work out. Cut that, and it is felt.

NI - it's really hard to work out.

Plus - we pay NI for lots of different things (or it used to be for lots of different things).

There was a Government Department called "National Insurance Funds" - based in Blackpool. I had to call them daily in my first job to tell them how much money we had paid out in Redundancy Payments. These were payments made to anyone who was made redundant and their employer was so skint they couldn't pay out.

That would be from a big company (I remember the Sweater Shop being one in the late 90s) to a small garage or corner shop.

The NI Fund also pays Pensions. People like me and Nuge can both expect to not get a state pension until we are over 70 now. The Government will be hoping a lot of us die before we hit 70. And, the chances of that have increased because the NI also partly funds the NHS. In April 2003, everyone had to pay more NI to fund the NHS. Now people are paying less NI, so there's less money for the NHS.

The NI Fund also pays things like sickness. We pay an insurance premium (about to be cut) so that - if we ever need it - we can get help if we find ourselves unemployed, or sick.

The headline will be a 2p cut in NI. But, the reality will be that people will struggle to access sickness benefits (any of us could need that at any time), unemployment benefits (could happen to the best of us), become more likely to die whilst waiting for an ambulance or queuing in A&E. Oh, and considering most of us are at least 30 years into our working lives - most of us will have already paid the 35 years of NI Contributions needed to get a full pension. But - chances are we're all going to have to wait until we are a few years from the grave to get our hands on the cash that we have put in - especially those of you who have never claimed unemployment or sickness, and maybe never used the NHS for anything more than maternity or the odd visit to a GP.

It's the shittest of bribes, and it's going to limit what the next government can do to spur on growth. It's Trussonomics.

Actually, thinking about it, unless the NI rate is returned we can probably expect the pension to become means tested. Labour have already announced they will keep the triple lock. That becomes unaffordable thanks to what Hunt is about to do tomorrow. In other words, force Labour to raise NI or force Labour to abandon Triple Lock.

This is Party political, and it is going to fuck most of us over.

It’ll probably be scrapped by Labour when they get in because it’s simply unaffordable.

Theres no wriggle room for tax cuts because the economy is in the toilet. As you say this is being funded by cuts to other services.

Essentially it’s like somebody pinching your central heating and then expecting you to cheer because they’ve given you a big coat to keep warm.

Yet another Tory policy that doesn’t add up and conveniently benefits those that have more.

And puts the pressure on Labour

And puts the pressure on Labour
Exactly. Instead of doing what’s right for British people they’d rather play politics.

Their only priority is themselves.

Yeah - the main aim for this is to give the Labour Government that is about to storm into Number 10 two options - both of which are shit.

Raise NI.
Remove the Triple Lock.

They know they have no chance of winning the next election - this is all about losing fewer seats than predicted so they can try to get back in in 2030. They are about to ensure that the economy will stay in the toilet.

The one way around this would be to raise taxes for the rich - to balance the cuts.

In 2022/23 the Government spent £112bn on interest on the national debt. £112 bn! That would fund HS2 in one year. In 2 years we'd have the HS2 expanded to Cornwall and West Wales. In 3 years, it would expand into Scotland. But, no, instead of tackling debt the Tories have brought in a budget that will speed up debt. And the greatest bonus of all? They can blame it on 5 years of Labour falling into their traps.

Here's another possibility. Labour fight the election with policies such as the triple lock. They then have to abandon that in year 2 of government. A big rebellion, and an early election. I'm not saying this will happen, but losing a budget vote triggers an election.

Reeves is a clever lady, though, and it will be interesting to see what she comes up with. It will have to be radical, and something a bit like Lloyd-George's budget in 1909 - which was a huge grab of money from the rich to remove poverty for the poor.

The older I get the more I’m convinced that we need a new way of doing things. There has to be a better way than this whole Labour/Tory shite where people just get screwed for more and more while getting less and less.

What that is I’ll leave to people far cleverer than me but in the words of Megadeth - if there’s a new way, I’ll be the first in line.

We need PR. That will mean fewer majority Governments and more coalitions. It will also see parties like the Greens, Reform and Galloway's lot get the number of seats that matches their votes. We'll get a few chancers, but we already have that anyway. Only way for that to happen is a LAB-LIB coalition after the next election - not much chance of that happening.

I like that guy but is any of that anything we didn’t know already?

Rich bankers don’t care about the budget and Tories won’t tax them?
Most people will have realised that of course.

Us “little people” still tend to get caught up in the small details of The Budget, a few quid either way here and there.

Bankers just carry on regardless, enriching themselves at everyone else’s expense, safe in the knowledge that no one in power will lift a finger to stop them.

Well this is dull
