You sure about the late 90s Trav? I didn't live in Canton then but would have been there often enough - playing snooker at Rileys across the road etc but don't remember it at all. I think it must have gone much sooner or at least been in significant disrepair.

I’m not sure, I’ll blame the source if I’m wrong :hehe:

Sunday nights used to be pool night in the Wyndham or the Crown just down the road for us in the late 80s. I used to like both of those pubs, but, like the one in the Napier, pool tables were added to to cash in on the snooker/pool boom of that decade. That was fine in most pubs, but the pool table was really shoehorned in when it came to the Crown which meant that it looked like you were playing a masse shot half of the time.

Every time I see a pic of that bar on the corner it's got a new name
It'll always be Sam's Bar for me, used to get in there quite a lot on Saturday nights after the pubs closed. It was the place where Sam Hammam first met up with City fans prior to his takeover (or it may have been just after) wasn't it.

The Glamorgan canal just south of the swing bridge at James Street, the elegant building is Merthyr house in front the Stuart warehouses and Rose and co building. The large building in the distance is the imperial Hotel that fronted on Mountstuart Square.

CROCKHERBTOWN. Now Queen St. 1826. Unsure where we would be standing today.

Name Origin: Records from 1348 show variations like 'Crokarton', evolving to mean an area where Franciscan Friars (Grey Friars) grew herbs in pots.
