Fair play to the strict Muslims for following this through.

In a typically ignorant fashion, I hadn't given it much thought and guessed you skipped breakfast and dinner and couldn't eat until tea time or something.

I learnt the truth around this time last year when a Muslim customer took me and @Lawnmower out for lunch in Hatfield and he suggested an all you can eat Chinese buffet. I thought nothing of it, apart from having already had a massive services breakfast on the way up.

We met there and he told us he was fasting, but encouraged us to get up and fill some plates. When we'd finished, he said the same again, so despite already being stuffed, we both got stuck in again out of courtesy.

I then asked a few questions about fasting and it turns out they can't eat or drink ANYTHING between sunrise and sunset, including water!

Serious dedication there, and I had to admire his bravery seeing two obviously full, pasty white guys shovelling noodles and cokes down whilst he had at least another 9 hours before he could have so much as a sip of water.

I bet though, those first sips and scoffs must feel amazing, and I can definitely see the spiritual benefit to fasting. Must make you massively appreciate what you have, and give you a new perspective on what you do eat and drink normally.

More to it than that as well isn't there. Extra prayer. Extra charity donations. It is in line with the Saudi's isn't it so when it lands in the summer over here it's much harder than it is there because of our longer days at that time of year.

Yeah I would not fare well doing Ramadan, I get a headache if I haven't had water after about 30 mins. I drink water all day long and wake up a couple of times in the night to drink water.

I went to Egypt during Ramadan about 10 years ago, it was in August then, 40 degrees & these guys were running around bringing us drinks & cold towels all day in their posh togs. No idea how they managed it.

Now you know why I never fast. :hehe: Fair play to those who do

Are their grades of Muslim then Adz? Can you do the bits that you want, or is that scorned upon by your community?

Or are they still accepting?

Genuinely intrigued now. As Joe would say, I needs to know

Seriously, you should get checked for diabetes.

Do you also not walk around a massive black box with several thousand other Muslims?

That's Hajj bro. We pray facing the Kaaba (the mosque you referred to).

Personally I don't think I would do Hajj because I feel that I would indirectly contribute to the Saudi economy and I feel uneasy about their government's actions, not only domestically but internationally in Yemen

thats why their not alcholics. but like their sniff alledgely, the ones i know do. lazy

1) I think there are different levels of Islam
2) Depends, some are a bit scornful but I don't like to mix with these types of people. Some are okay. And some don't fast too :hehe:

Your diagnosis is spot on. Got diagnosed a couple of years back, that's why I hassle Joe for veg recipes so much :hehe: It's under control now with diet and meds but I should be able to come off the meds soon since I've come close enough to normal blood sugar level again.

Glad to hear that. Cant be too careful when it comes to health issues.

P.s that'll be £75 for the online consultation.
