Wembley is 'SNUBBED as curtain-raising venue by UEFA for Euro 2028 - as tournament organisers pick Wales' Principality Stadium to host opener'

[UWSL]Cardiff[/UWSL] are set to host the opening match of the next [UWSL]European Championship[/UWSL] competition in 2028 after Wembley was snubbed for the grand affair, according to reports.

The Principality Stadium in the Welsh capital has been chosen as the destination for the opening game of Euro 2028 that will be held in the UK and Ireland.

Meanwhile, Wembley will host the semi-finals and the final of the competition, but the English FA also wanted to stage the curtain-raiser at the national stadium in London, as reported by the Times.

However, Wales have been given the nod by UEFA organisers who are keen to see the 74,500-seater stadium put on the tournament's grand opening display in four years time.

The stadium is frequently used to host Wales' international rugby matches, while football is usually played at Cardiff City's stadium, however, the [UWSL]Champions League[/UWSL] final previously took place at the Principality in 2017.

The English fa would play every bloody game at Wembley if they could.

Wembley’s focking shite.

Shithole industrial estate with fuck all around there.

Millennium Stadium - Off the train, right in front of you, boozers everywhere, restaurants, fast food, hotels, everything you need.

Less chance of getting stabbed too.

So, the host country plays in the opening game. England v Johnny Foreigner in Cardiff could be interesting

We’re the host country though.

It’s a UK tournament.

If we’re there then it’ll be us.

If it's a multi country tournament then I assume nobody qualifies automatically ?

Does anyone qualify automatically anymore ?

Cattarh aside in the World Cup .

From what I remember for the next one all host countries have to qualify but there was a mechanism to ensure that 2 or 3 do even if they fuck up the conventional route.

Not sure if there's much value in automatic qualification anymore. Did the Qatar tran add anything to the last WC? The strong teams are weakened by not playing competitive fixtures for a few years and now that qualification is easier than it used to be if you fail do you really deserve a spot?
