Wintle leaving

I was surprised all three weren't involved in the raft of contract extensions that went out earlier this year and last year, especially given how Bosmans can start from January 1st.

Maybe that could've been a sign that we were close to losing all three anyways, who knows.

That's the thing, we don't know.

It does seem though that for the first time in, well forever, we're driving our transfer policy from the front, rather than our usual react out of desperation policy.

BBM showed last season that he's not one for making charity decisions when he got rid of Ralls

I would add that those players were more than good enough not to have been relegated. A change of style from a good man manager and football coach made the difference but as you say Tan will need to spend a few bob now to go to the next level.
I hope he understands that and I hope BBM has explained that to him.
Well, they got relegated, so clearly not.
The difference you note has been in the league below. Our defence has been shaky as hell. We were found out by some very poor sides in League one and BBM had no plan B. Championship teams will exploit our high press/high defence and punish us. We could be heading for some biblical hidings this season if it hadn’t been learnt from.

This is the first time in many years - even going back to pre-Tan/committee that it actually feels like there's a genuine coherent plan for who we want to bring in and that we know all there is to know about the squad/prospects/transfer targets well in advance of the window opening.

For many years it just felt like we chased big names on big wages and hoped we could make a coherent squad for the inevitable 2 managers per season we ended up with.

BBM seems to operate in a way that although won't give us a lot of rumours to discuss for players coming in and no panicky last minute signings on deadline day but would give us competency throughout the organisation.

Even if I would've liked the charity decisions for club legends like Ralls myself though.

Although on that note the only times we've received hidings this season is when Wintle wasn't playing.

Shows how important the role is to BBM's system and how important it is to have the right man there.

Just got to trust he can find that right man.

They may have felt it would have been a poor decision to stay in L1 and the contract term suited them. Can't blame them

I thought it was noticeable the one person he omitted from his goodbye post was BBM - you'd think he'd be top of the list given he was captain at times and an ever-present in the side.

We may now start to be somewhat competent across the board under BBM and hard decisions taken when they need to be.

Can't believe it.
To be expected tbf. He may have enjoyed playing for BBM and respect him but if he was told he wasn't as integral or as valuable as he thought he was then it's inevitable he won't single him out for praise. He seems to have left in a classy way so best of luck to him - he was good to watch this season.

Tell me more about the rubbing

🔵 Ryan Wintle’s Cardiff City exit has got people talking.

Despite being voted Player of the Season 🏆, the midfielder is leaving after the club decided to prioritise rebuilding the middle of the park ahead of the Championship return.

📌 The situation mirrors the departures of Joe Ralls and Andy Rinomhota last summer.

💬 Wintle hinted at frustration in his cryptic message saying the decision was “completely out of my control”.

But this is another sign of Brian Barry-Murphy’s ruthless streak.

Cardiff need:
⚡ More athleticism
💪 More physicality
📈 More competition for places
🔄 A squad built around rotation and adaptability

Cardiff need to bolster the midfield if they’re going to compete in the Championship — and Charlie Savage is already on the radar 🇼🇸

In the past 12months, the Bluebirds have lost:
❌ Aaron Ramsey
❌ Joe Ralls
❌ Andy Rinomhota
❌ Ryan Wintle

Also, David Turnbull’s future might be one to watch 🤔

Cardiff need four, five or even six players capable of pushing for starting spots this summer as Barry-Murphy shapes the squad in his own image 🔵

Wintle showed plenty of athleticism this season and don't think he's as soft as some make out. If BBM believes there are better / better value players out there then fair enough.

Wintle and AN Other would aid the rotation and competition alluded to. This smacks to me of GW looking to be wise after the event or a mouthpiece for the club.

Tbf that threw me too, not sure what games of Wintles Glen was watching but certainly wasn’t and Ryan played in 🤣
