How do you play hard mode then ? I always repeat the letters from my first word in subsequent words. It just means you're more likely to solve it in my head. I don't get why it's harder ?

Try not using wrong letters from last words, youll be surprised how tricky it can get

Basically if you’ve used a letter once and it was yellow or green, you have to use it again

Thats what I do anyways....why wouldn't you ? Narrows it down...

Some unscrupulous bastards like Melv and Nuggles, will use a couple of “burner words” to narrow the letters down. Say they get three yellows first go, they’ll ignore those and use different letters in go two, which boosts their chance of getting 4/5 correct letters for go 3.
I don’t play in hard mode, but I may as well because I’ll stick with any correct letters anyway.

Unless I've fluked a load of letters on my first guess I often use a completely different word on my second guess to flush out a few more letter.

heh, didn't see your reply.

There was a word last week where I got 3 letters on my first guess, ploughed along with those and eventually got it in 4.
If I'd have done my usual 2nd guess to find more letters I'd have done it in 3.

Ahh OK...After getting a 2 today it invited me to create an account...I'll do that when I get 5 mins...I play hard mode unknowingly because I actually think thats the easiest mode. I have a decent vocabulary. Using letters already acknowledged as being present should in theory narrow it down. I always use them. Sometimes it doesn't because as you've seen sometimes I get to 4 letters in their right place by guess 3 and the other 3 are just wasted attempts. Just guess work after getting 4 greens. So many possibilities and variations.

I don't me...Like I said I shoehorn any letters from the first word into the second. The only time I use a second word not containing any of the first letters is if none came up. Which is pretty rare but does happen occasionally.

I have 2 starting words.

1 of them worked wonders for a while.

The second one is far more consistent though.

Nothing to do with honour though - it just seems to be the most logical way of playing.

I also use the same first word 95% of the time, which is why my guesses are beyond reproach - unlike some that seem to have a list of fortunate first guesses
