If you were an MP how would you vote on the assisted dying bill?

Anonymous poll so don't be shy.

No need to give your reasons but if you want to that'd be great.

I'd vote for it as I'd like to have that choice when the times comes. I won't necessarily exercise the choice to end it all but I'd like to have the option all the same.

I support the principle of assisted dying. I'm not particularly convinced by everything they're doing on it though

Agree in principle but a lot more thought needs to go into it before it becomes law

Although I’m in favour, I can absolutely understand the arguments against it. Over the last few weeks it’s actually been quite heartening to see the respectful tone of the debate. I guess that’s down to the nature of the subject. It would be nice to see it spread to other areas of politics, we might actually have more consensus on issues rather than the worsening polarisation we have now.

For. Dignity.

I'm for it, have watched a few friends with cancers over the years, and some of them really would have loved the choice, I know as I've also worked at Holm towers yrs ago, as a " listener" to both the persons suffering & families, and many there would beg for nurses to " end it", obviously that wasn't ever going to happen, but some really wanted out. I also have a friend with motor neuron disease, and he has already stated, that when he feels enough is enough, he would go to abroad to take up the option, hopefully now, he & many tens of thousands won't have to go that route.A very contentious issue for sure, and imho, there are good arguments on both sides, but still believe the sufferers should have that choice, after all its their body.

If anything I think what is being proposed should be expanded further provided there are very good safeguards in place. People are spending a fortune going to Switzerland to die at the moment for stuff that would not be covered by the Bill which covers terminally ill people on a limited clock only and doesn't take into account pain and quality of life issues. People don't go to that effort and expense with the risk of criminal proceedings without being completely commited to it. An easier option should be available to stop the need to travel to Dignitas or for people to attempt suicide and assisted suicide on their own - which is often unsuccessful and causes more issues or can leave serious consequences for the kin left behind if successful.

Are you suggesting that kids should decide when they've had enough of their parents

Certainly cure the ageing problem, just a shame I'm in the category that youngsters want rid of
Not only youngsters

For.

My body, my choice
I'm all for My body my choice but I'm also aware how people are easily coerced and manipulated so I worry about it.

"the Netherlands and Belgium have also continued along the path of ever-increasing expansion in their assisted dying practice. “Couples euthanasia”, a recipe for coercion, is on the rise in the Netherlands, with 66 people dying last year in this way; the country also agreed last year to expand the law to cover children of all ages, and its Parliament is soon expected to debate allowing anyone over the age of 75 to apply for state-assisted death even if they are completely healthy."

Couples euthanasia :nope:
