Well spoken! To have family members( usually the case) possibly face serious charges of assisting suicide etc, is ludicrous, but a real prospect for those that choose to use that route! It's not a matter imho that the sufferers take lightly, in fact I see them as having massive bollocks, so to speak, as that decision cannot be an easy one to take, thus imho, showing that the person really has a full understanding of what that decision means, and talk at length no doubt with family, who also have to be supportive, regardless of how it makes THEM feel.to be told you could be possibly imprisoned, for support of a loved ones decision is ludicrous to me!If anything I think what is being proposed should be expanded further provided there are very good safeguards in place. People are spending a fortune going to Switzerland to die at the moment for stuff that would not be covered by the Bill which covers terminally ill people on a limited clock only and doesn't take into account pain and quality of life issues. People don't go to that effort and expense with the risk of criminal proceedings without being completely commited to it. An easier option should be available to stop the need to travel to Dignitas or for people to attempt suicide and assisted suicide on their own - which is often unsuccessful and causes more issues or can leave serious consequences for the kin left behind if successful.
