I'd rate Villars in the same way I do Ken Zohore - for a short while, it was worth going to games just to watch him. I was at the Greg Farrell match, but was too young to appreciate how good he was that night. However, if he was better than Villars was against Palace in 1974 then he must have been brilliant - it really was among the best individual performances I've seen in my life.

I can remember so looking forward to the 74/75 season starting so I could start watching Villars play for City again, but, whatever he had disappeared over the summer and, rather like Rubin Colwill, we went down with him unable to get a starting place in the team. There were a couple of flickers of brilliance from him in Division 3 at the start of 75/76, but he soon faded out of contention and left for Newport at the end of that season - what a waste of talent.

As for Colwill, some people think I'm mad for saying he was "superb" when he came on in my blog piece on Saturday's game, but it was the type of game that was made for him and as I was watching him go through his repertoire, all I could think was where was all of this when it really mattered?
I had a quick read of a Norwich message board and there is a thread on there discussing which players they would take from the three relegated teams. I think Salech and Colwill are the two most mentioned with people commenting that he came on and was brilliant, dominated midfield and that he is exactly the type of player they need.

Reminds me of Dave Jones' teams. Looked brilliant when allowed to play but clueless and forlorn when the opposition had the temerity to stop them

Yes he must be great in training games, and matches with nothing on them, like Norwich.

I think that RC's game would improve a lot if his brother was in the team. Based on not a lot I feel that Joel has the better mentality and being on the field the sibling rivalry would lift RC's game. He's struck me a a better player when he's had the youth players and Tanner in the team, think that raises his confidence for some reason.

He needs his little brother to hold his hand

I reckon it's because Tanner is one of the only wingers we have that's capable of running at his man and past people so he knows he's got an outlet for through balls. Our other most potent attacking threat is shunted into left-back.

Compare that to El Ghazi and Willock and the like who's first instinct is to stop and look up when they get the ball.

I'm not sure what type of player El Ghazi is, but Willock doesn't have the pace that other wingers do to attack from deep positions. What he does have is a great touch and balance, can get past a man from a standing start and put in good crosses with either foot. I hope we keep him and use him more effectively.

Willock is surprisingly strong for his stature and doesn't go down easily or dive like most wingers. Sadly he sees very little reward for that

Must be worth at least £20 million then. :sherlock:

El Khazi is gash...had 2 seasons of being top notch and direct in a front foot team where it' just fell right for him...

O'Dowda should be played as a winger continuously wasted at wing back .

We desperately need to sign a secondary LB, especially if we're moving Bagan to CB and refusing to play Collins (who's leaving anyways).

If you look on here you can see that although he started the season on the left for us he became a centre half for us halfway through the season.

Technically, Willock is too good for League One, my reservations with him, just as with too many others in the squad, are to do with his mentality.

Sums up the main issue of the season. Talent enough to stay up comfortably but not enough dog, character or leadership in the squad

Injuries to senior players like Ramsey, Ralls, Alnwick and Ng have not helped. If they are not playing, it's a pretty young side.
