Seems a bit ill advised ahead of Belgium but I liked Bellamy's explanation that most teams we play at the WC will be better than us and we need to be used to competing with better teams. He's probably learnt stuff about some players today that he wouldn't have if we'd just played a properly mediocre team

That was around his peak. I remember him being very good at Finland away which I think was the same campaign. His work rate and closing down was top drawer and he was tidy and effective when he had the ball. Was great at winning it and quickly giving the ball to one of our flair players. Was a great team we had in the early 2000s but qualifying was much tougher then
