He's just not Prem quality.
I don't think that's true. He's had very good runs of form with Forest and Spurs. I've been surprised by the transfer fees he's attracted and he is certainly a flawed and frustrating player. Think he's the type that needs to be in the right environment to flourish. Think he's Prem quality but he's not a big money player or someone you build your team around

He was awful with Spurs - good at the back post tap ins so credit for getting into positions, but utterly anonymous most games, lack of defensive work.

it speaks volumes that with all the injuries they had, Spurs were more than happy to ship him out.

Had a few good runs of scoring goals and providing assists in the Greedy League - a feat many never accomplish. I agree he is often anonymous but he has shown for Wales he is capable of putting a decent defensive shift in.

I was surprised Spurs signed him tbh but he did alright there in a dysfunctional team including scoring in a European final. Surprised Palace signed him as don't think he's their type of player. Does seem the kind of player who promises more than he will achieve

I've never rated him with Wales, tbh.

If you compare him and Sorba, for me it's like night and day - one a Prem player, the other not - not in the order of actual level atm.

He has been incredibly frustrating for Wales because you know he is capable of better

Sorba puts on consistent 7/10 performances.

Johnson may have an 8 every 10 games or so, 4 or 5 the rest.

He's been at 3 Prem clubs and if he can't work out what he needs to do...
I agree with what you're saying here but not that he isn't Prem quality. Being a dependable Prem starter is another issue. I think part of the problem is working out how to use him best

The issue for me is he's rarely shown signs of Prem quality.

I once saw Lee Baddeley chest a ball and in one fluid motion swivel and play a cross field volley to our wingers feet.

I'd not say that means Prem clubs would beat down his door.

He's scored enough goals to prove it's more than a fluke. He may need a season at a big Championship club to get his form and confidence up but if he keeps his pace he'll probably have a shot at the prem for a while yet

I just think he lacks the mentality. Good Championship player... the Prem these days players need to have that workrate. Even a Le Tissier would be exposed these days.

That definitely seems to be his main weakness. You'd think having a dad who was a professional footballer would help but doesn't seem to have much

Lincoln just missed a pelanty against Doncaster. Currently 0-0
Bastard 0-1 now
