With the season now over and the player of the season votes concluded, how would you rank the players in the first team this season and why?

GKs:
Trott -
Turner -
Tyrer -

RBs:
Ng -
Kpakio -

LBs:
Bagan -
Scanlon -

CBs:
Fish -
Lawlor -
Chambers -
Osho

CMs:
Wintle -
Turnbull -
Robertson -
J. Colwill -
R. Colwill -

LWs:
Willock -
Ashford -

RWs:
Kellyman -
Tanner -

STs:
Robinson -
Salech -
Davies -

Manager:
BBM -

GKs:
Trott - 8/10. Dip in form in the middle of the season, but some fantastic hands on him and good short distribution. Definite re-sign for me.
Turner - 5/10. Barely played but did well enough when called in.
Tyrer - 6/10. Barely played but played slightly better than Turner when called in.

RBs:
Ng - 8/10. Stalwart of the team and came up with some very important goals over the season.
Kpakio - 5/10. Shaky defensively, and I'm not convinced he's a fullback. Notable though that when he has played he's had minimal support from his winger. One for the loan list IMO.

LBs:
Bagan - 9/10. Strong case for player of the season for me. Great both defensively and offensively and we were very lucky he didn't get injured for a long period of time.
Scanlon - 5/10. Barely played, did well enough in his limited appearances. Thought he'd get more appearances at left back than he did in the end.

CBs:
Fish - 8/10. Defensively solid, with a phenomenal range of passing to him. Part of our best centre half pairing with Lawlor.
Lawlor - 8/10. As above, but slightly more mistake prone, but I put this down to playing his long balls more across the floor to the wing whereas Fish lofts them.
Chambers - 7/10. Had a mistake in him but on the whole was very reliable at left centre half, which is a difficult position for a right footer.
Osho - 5/10. Not an ideal start to his Cardiff career, however never truly got a proper run in the team to get settled thanks to BBM's tinkering. One I'd expect to do better in the Championship next year.

CMs:
Wintle - 9/10. My player of the season - very noticeable how much poorer we were without him playing which says it all.
Turnbull - 6/10. Another victim of the curse of rotation who couldn't get settled. Yet to see the repertoire of long range strikes he showed in Scotland, but a very clever passer of the ball. One who keeps a good team ticking over as opposed to one who'll change a game, and another who I think will do better in the Championship due to his skillset.
Robertson - 7/10. Strong season and battled well I'm midfield, but almost too much. Multiple times this season we had to waste a sub before half time due to his indiscipline hence the low rating.
J. Colwill - 7/10. Very industrious but sometimes something lacking in his end product. Reminds me of prime Ralls in the way he rats around the middle of the park. Clearly has very significant potential and will likely only improve.
R. Colwill - 9/10. The most creative player in the side and when utilised properly ran games for us this year - also noticeable that when he went down we had a significant slump in form. Has promised to come good for a number of years now, and this year showed his best in a Cardiff shirt.

LWs:
Willock - 7/10. Blew very hot and very cold at times, and was very limited in his defensive support at times leaving his fullback exposed. Often too ponderous on the ball, but could then produce a moment of magic to unlock someone else.
Ashford - 7/10. Lots of running, lots of industry from him, but less end result than someone like Willock. Perfect counterpoint to him depending on the game state. Needs a haircut though, badly.

RWs:
Kellyman - 8/10. Other than the period where he was shoehorned up front he has been one of our main attacking threats this season, especially when Tanner was out. Wand of a left foot, but the right leg is only worth for standing on. Would love him back next season.
Tanner - 7/10. A difficult one. Had a wondrous turn of form when he returned from injury but blew hot and cold the rest of the season. For me he doesn't pass the eye test and appears to moan a lot, but can again produce moments of quality out of nowhere. Maybe a harsh grade, but to me I think he's got the tools and the build to be a really serious force in the Championship but does need to work a lot on his defensive support, especially when in front of Kpakio.

STs:
Robinson - 7/10. Harshly done by this season - strange how a backup striker, and probably one of the best strikers in the division total at that didn't get a run in the team when Salech was out. Has definitely lost a yard of pace, but came up with crucial goals for us especially at Stevenage that maintained our form in a rough patch. Also appears to be a phenomenal mentor and great personality to have around the club - definitely want him back next year.
Salech - 8/10. Again a difficult one. On one hand he was getting manhandled left right and centre by opposing centre halves but then also seemed to go down easily in other situations. Had a solid goalscoring return this year, and would've likely broken the 20 goal barrier had Stockport's thuggery not hospitalised him.
Davies - 6/10. Another unfortunate victim of injury and rotation. Often played out of position on the left wing, but did well when he played in his natural position as a striker. Has lost a yard of pace since his injuries but another one definitely worth keeping around.

Manager:
BBM - 9/10. One of the best managers we've had in recent times. Willing to change things up to win a game (for better or worse) but tinkers too much. Club seems revitalised under him, but sometimes sticks with things to start a game that don't work - like the Kellyman/Colwill dual false 9s situation. Even the little things like the warmups are night and day how they were under prior regimes. With a full year behind him and the chances to innovate tactically at the end of the season taken I'm really excited to see what he can do in the summer to take us to the next level.

I'd generally agree but in my opinion youve been too generous to Colwill (I'd have more of a 7 as so inconsistent) and Robinson who would get a low six or high 5 from me

Robinson I had at a six but gave slightly higher as a few of his goals/assists came in close games that ended up being very important with the teams chasing us. 11 goal involvements from 40 appearances total doesn't sound like much, but considering just how many of those would be 10-15 minutes off the bench I think he's done well with limited chances.

Colwill on the other hand spent a long time coming back from injury, but ran the gaff before he got injured and Kellyman came in. Oftentimes he's been the only spark for us offensively and his tricky feet have gotten us out of a lot of high presses when we've had limited cover behind him. Although he did get 14 goal involvements this year in 31 games for us (roughly 1 in 2), he's also come back from a major injury and we had a big slump in form when he was out of the team which to me always shows how important a player is. Also, averaging 7.3/10 across a season is no small feat - only players higher than that are Bagan and Ng who both had a serious chance of being our player of the season themselves.

Good explanations. Robinson has had his moments but felt like a busted flush in a lot of games. Colwill has kicked on and showed some real quality this season but can still give away a lot of possession needlessly. I'm not saying he's not a good player but I think 9 is very generous when he is still very patchy

Fair enough!

Maybe I'm just a Rubin truther, unlike Bri :hehe:

Agree with most of those but Kpakio.
He would get at least a. 6 possible a 7 for his early season form and games for wales.
Ho lost a bit of confidence when they asked him to play left bacñat times

left bacñat?

To be fair I think most players wouldn’t know how.

One of his early assists was outstanding. Scored a good goal early on too

Im not gonna go into all of it but my thoughts are

Trott - Completely different type of keeping to what we normally have and hit the ground running. Did drop off a bit but only from a very high bar.

NG- Class and committed

Bagan- Superb

Lawlor - excellent. What a player in the making

Osho - Mental. Sometimes you look at him and think he can do the lot. Other times a liability.

Chambers- I'd have him in my team any day.

Wintle - This league is too easy for him. Needs to establish himself in the Championship

Fish - Made some banging tunes with Marillon. Great defener as well.

Kpakio - Once someone knows what to do with his athleticism and put some shape on him he'll be top draw.

Tanner - More than decent.

Kellymum - Baller.

Colwills - Both very good this year. Lots to like.

Salech- Genuinely the most fun I've had watching the City for ages. What a boy. What a lad.

Ashford- Improving all the time.

The rest - all played their part nicely

That period where he was asked to play LB really did a number on him I feel. Already trying to learn a position in a tough league and then to go off-footed at that is a tough one.

Especially strange when Ng has played LB for us many times over the years.

I thought he meant it at the time but either way he's stocking it in the right area. There's a player there
He's a difficult one to quantify for me. Clearly has immense potential as a general footballer and no doubt is incredibly talented for his age to be regularly playing in the first team and when he plays often gets minimal support from in front of him, but then he also makes absolutely bizarre defensive decisions after making a good tackle and then doesn't know when to get rid of the ball so ends up with three men on him as he dribbles it out of play for no reason when the ball should've gone fifty yards upfield.

He either needs a loan to an unbelievably solid defensive team with guaranteed minutes - like a Stevenage - to up his defensive nous or he needs to be converted to somewhere further upfield (maybe the backup right winger we need) but then he has other aspects of his game he needs to work on like his appalling first touch.

He played well yesterday at right attacking midfielder when we went to a 3ATB, but that coincided with Kellyman coming on and the gameplan essentially reverting to "get it to Omari" so all he really had to do was receive the ball from Robertson/Fish and shuffle it to the right so Kellyman could work his magic so it's quite a small sample size.

There's clearly a player in him - he wouldn't be a full international at his age if there wasn't - but he's got a hell of a lot to work on if he wants to be a fullback.

It's his decision making for me. He makes tackles and wins balls others aren't capable of. Sometimes he plays his way out of trouble brilliantly and puts us on the front foot. Problem is he also makes terrible decisions that leaves the whole team exposed. If L1 teams can exploit that you can bet your bottom dollar better teams will. Like you say a call needs to be made whether he's an attack minded player or wingback and if the latter he needs to improve his decision making. He's a talented athlete with great pace but a decision needs to be made before too long.

Spot on with the decision making comment.

I wonder if it's something as simple as that he was able to use his athleticism to get out of all situations at younger levels when playing about kids and now all of a sudden has had to learn won't work anymore when he's no longer an outlier physically.

Reminds me of playing football as a kid - we had a lad up front who must've been about 6'0" at 12 so all we ever did was loft crosses in and he'd score loads a season. When it came time for everyone else to grow up as well he all of a sudden fell off a cliff because he'd never had to learn to play with his feet and all of a sudden his massive physical advantage at headers was gone.

GKs:
Trott - 7. Started decently, dipped a lot. Concerns over crosses, conceding from distance.
Turner - N/A. Great debut, good saves. Too small a sample set to judge, needs a loan for experience.
Tyrer - N/A. Same as Turner. Massively exposed by a defence probably still drunk yesterday BUT his loan at Blackpool showed parity with Trott.

RBs:goes on mazy run
Ng - 8. Solid, dependable.
Kpakio - 4. Trent Alexander-Arnold syndrome - "oh look, modern full back! Yeah but can't fucking defend mate". If rating him as a RW, then a 7.

LBs:
Bagan - 8. Written off by most, Mr Consistent for me.
Scanlon - N/A. Did well for Millwall, blink and missed it appearances for us.

CBs:
Fish - 8 - Pretty solid, best partner for Lawlor.
Lawlor - 8. Massive ceiling, best partner for Fish.
Chambers - 7. Downside of career, capable backup.
Osho - 6. Can play well, always feel a mistake there.

CMs:
Wintle - 8. Superb at L1 level breaking up play and instigating attacks.
Turnbull - 6. Neat, tidy, lack of pace will always expose him at higher level.
Robertson - 8. Quality.
J. Colwill - 8. Great engine, that dog in midfield every team neds, gets forward and scores.
R. Colwill - 7. Looked good pre injury, post injury not so much; fitting him and Kellyman together problematic.

LWs:
Willock - 6. Flatters to deceive. Oh look, another cut in and shot going wide.
Ashford - 6. He's not a winger. Puts a shift in.

RWs:
Kellyman - 9. Quality on the ball, too many mazy runs at expense of simple ball.
Tanner - 8. Good engine, doesn't hide, looks to create.

STs:
Robinson - 5. Yes, good goal/minute ratio. Legs maybe gone, remained sub with Salech out.
Salech - 8. Fact teams had to try to take him out the game speaks volums.
Davies - 6. Not been played as a striker.

Manager:
BBM - 7. With arguably best squad in division, did what was expected by board. Too one dimensional at times, formational weaknesses not addressed. Acid test will be next season if he can adapt better in game.
