Medical Insurance

Anyone got private medical insurance?

My company is offering up a discounted plan so i'm thinking of joining up

Anyone had a plan and subsequently had to use it? How does the service compare to the NHS in terms of waiting times and all that?

Any other benefits associated?
use the NHS mate, its what all good socialists would do

:hehe:

seriously, do it if you can. there are a number of reasons:

you get to see the same specialists that you would via the NHS but waiting is days/weeks rather than months
it takes pressure off the NHS funding
hospitals are usually state of the art, no wards, just private rooms
take up the family option if offered (bold of me to assume anyone would want to procreate with you )

I used to have it with my last job, taxed as a benefit in kind of course.

I had to have a minor operation, which I had done in Pontprennau. I was in the Heath on Monday where I got the dignosis, rang my insurance company the next day, saw a consultant on the Wednesday, operation on the Friday.
Was like being in a hotel. Freed up an NHS bed I suppose, but couldn't help feeling that all hospitals should be like this.
Overall I probably had my money's worth.
When I changed jobs, I did look at getting my own insurance, but as I recall it was pretty expensive. If you can afford it, I'd get it.
this, education and health are universal rights.

I just don't understand why the NHS can't pay for service to be provided in the same way BUPA do. Why does the NHS have to deliver the service rather than just be a health insurer?

Yeh i'm pretty sold on it tbh

As a good socialist i'm happy to pay to allow others better access to NHS facilities :hehe:

Like i said before, i can offset a proportion of the cost, which is also salary sacrifice apparently, with some of the rewards they offer for keeping active - they'd pay my amazon prime subscription, pay for an apple watch for me, monthly cinema tickets, free coffees in places, cashback credit card for example. I am active anyway so i dont have to do anything extra. Makes sense for them too as the cost of those rewards would be far less than potential medical costs as a result of people being unhealthy.

Fair few other discounts available with it too - nice gym memberships, huge discount on Champneys hotels which will be a nice getaway every now and then

Regarding your last point, i am never short of offers thanks very much :hehe:

We have had a halfway house family scheme in the UK with Benenden for more than 20 years. Much cheaper than full private care, but it will pay for private consultations if NHS can't offer the same within a reasonable period of time. Some private treatment available as well but very limited. Membership used only to be open persons who had been Government, Armed Services or Public Sector employed in the UK, but I think that it is now open to anyone.
