Mike Tyson back in shape: 'I want to box four-round exhibitions'

Dwayne 'the Rock' Johnson, UFC star Khabib Nurmagomedov, and movie star Will Smith among those to express their excitement

Mike Tyson's return to training has caused a social media storm after a video showed the self-proclaimed 'baddest man on the planet' still has plenty of speed and power at the age of 53, as he ponders boxing in exhibition bouts.

The former world heavyweight champion, who said he could return to the ring in exhibitions to raise money for charity, posted a training video on social media that has been viewed more than 9m times.

The video shows Tyson - the first heavyweight to hold the WBA, WBC and IBF titles - working the pads with trainer Rafael Cordeiro.

"I've been working out, I've been trying to get in the ring, I think I'm going to box some exhibitions and get in shape," Tyson said in an Instagram Live session with rapper T.I.

"I want to go to the gym and get in shape to be able to box three or four-round exhibitions for some charities and stuff.

"I do two hours on cardio, I do the bike and the treadmill for an hour, then I do some light weights, 300, 250 reps.

"Then I start my day with the boxing thing, I go in there and hit the mitts, 30 minutes, 25 minutes, start getting in better condition."

Cordeiro told ESPN: "He hasn't hit mitts for almost 10 years. So I didn't expect to see what I saw. I saw a guy with the same speed, same power as guys 21, 22 years old."

Tyson retired after a loss to Kevin McBride in 2005, but more than a decade on, there is already a buzz about his potential return to the ring.

"Can't believe, this is another level," UFC lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov said on social media after seeing the video.

Wrestler-turned-actor Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson said "to the gym I go", while Hollywood star Will Smith called Tyson "my hero".

If Tyson does return to the ring, he will be following in the footsteps of Floyd Mayweather Jr and Manny Pacquiao in coming out of retirement for an exhibition fight.

Former heavyweight champion George Foreman, however, said 'Iron Mike' had given enough to the sport.

"Tyson has done enough great things for boxing. No more is needed. He is in the Hall of Fame and was a mighty puncher," Foreman told World Boxing News.

Tyson, who became the youngest heavyweight champion of all time when he defeated Trevor Berbick in 1986 aged 20, won 50 of his 58 professional fights before retiring.

Bollox end fred!

He’s still good some speed for his age

4 round exhibitions I would imagine they would be
90 second - 2 minute rounds ,
he would still knock everyone of us on our backsides with a jab :hehe:

He’d jab mad Al and knock himself out

I watched the full re run of his defeat to buster Douglas last week on BT sport

That was great fight that.

Tyson should have won that fight in the 7th, he knocked buster down right at the end of the round, got up on the count of 9 and it was the end of the round.
Busters legs were fucked walking back to corner. If there was more time left in that round Tyson would have had him.

Then of course what happened later, happened

7 figure sum we all would
Last 2 seconds , wake up a week later :hehe:
Always be better to get knocked out from the one punch than to take an absolute leathering like that crazy guy who kept calling Ali Clay :hehe:

I reckon it's more than 50/50 that a haymaker from a heavyweight would kill a normal person who's never boxed.

He was well passed his sell by date in his last two fights, beaten by an Irish pub fighter and a London doorman.

Skint is he?

I saw Mike Tyson do stand up comedy in Vegas, surreal experience , it was in a small room in the MGM with about 70-100 people (if that).

Felt like I had to laugh at every joke or He would beat the shit out of you if you didn't!

He started it out oringally as a story of his life , but everyone laughed at his stories , so he turned it into a comedy set ,not sure if he still does it!
