Money saving links

I was thinking about something this morning. When I started school in 1980, the school still had the old stickers up about saving energy and I reckon that was from the 70s.

Ever since I was a kid, I would turn off lights and so on to save electricity.

Reading all the above has got my nerves on end Glos. I can move in if you like. :hehe:
I’d swap you for them any day.
They come from big apartment blocks where there is a set monthly rent which includes all utilities. Which makes them wasteful fuckers.
They tell me that it’s common for their home thermostats to be set at 30°C. Mine is set at 15° :hehe:

I need a lie down. :hehe:

My biggest tip is meal planning

Saves a packet.

Have each day planned and go shopping for the week based on that. Look in the fridge/freezer first and see what needs using up. Plan the first meals around that stuff

Started cooking different meals together as well (depending how long things keep in the fridge after). Saves turning the oven/hob on daily and only you only have to use the microwave then.

@Glos Blue how did the oven not catch on fire if they left it on for so long?

All joking aside this is actually a decent thread because it’s going to be a long hard winter for lots of people especially if you have a young family and it ain’t going to be easy for many people
These 7 steps listed below have already been mentioned but are pretty easy to do and just common sense really but will save 10/15% energy
Shower for no more than 2-3 minutes
Turn thermostat down a few degrees
Use air fryer and slow cooker (both excellent gadgets by the way) instead of oven
Only use tumble dryer when absolutely necessary
Don’t leave lights on for no reason
Turn everything off at mains and don’t leave things on standby
Turn the radiators down low in any room you don’t use often
Everyone can do all these with just a little bit of thought
And as Kiffa said meal planning and maybe cutting back on expensive meat and adding more veg to meals will save you a packet:thumbup:
Also if you have a menapousal wife like me that helps keep your bed bastard boiling all the time!!!

Air fryers are great. Mine is Phillips XXL, big enough to roast a chicken in (and tastes bloody good).

Had fresh water shortages when deployed on ships before due to mechanical issues so were told to have “submariner showers”.
Turn water on, soak yourself all over, turn water off. Get soapy, wash all over, turn tap back on and rinse off. No more than 2 minutes either.

Don’t shave daily (for those who tend to), twice a week max.

Yeah seems no one got a bad word to say about them.
I'm off to argos this afternoon

When I was on nasa website earlier my missus saw the menopausal clothes made from a material helped developed by nasa that cools them down.
"Get me a pair of pyjamas" she said, 75 fucking quid.
Aye like fuck. I got an airfryer to get

Save money by NOT sponsoring Ukrainian refugees.

Prevent the following from occurring:
Gas hob left on when no one home 8 hrs
Gas hob left on when no one home 6 hrs x2
Oven left on all day 7am-7pm with nothing in it x8

Lights turned on in whichever room they’re in regardless of time of day and left on when they leave
Heating turned on in middle of summer when outside temperature was 21°C
Only take baths
Boil a full kettle for one cup of tea and walk off, come back 5 minutes later and reboil it
Microwave everything, including yogurts
Put the washing machine on for one T-shirt
Get Glos Blue’s wallet and set fire to the contents

Seriously though, good thread @Nugent , no doubt will help everyone save a couple of quid.
I think Steve might be part Ukrainian :hehe:

I’ve got a cheap arse air fryer, don’t k know if it’s cost effective, I got it for health reasons to cook chips without using oil
If you get a better one... Ummm.... You could... Ummm... You could save ten pow... Umm.. ten pounds.

Ten pounds every year!

The oven is electric. I come back from work and the kitchen is like a sauna. To be fair to them, they’re think as shit. :hehe:

these are all well meaning posts, and I'll be using them myself, but it just makes me so angry that we have to have these topics in 21st century Britain

Little tool here to show how much your energy bills will be for the next few months based n your usage over the past year.

Obviously it’s not good reading but at least if you know what you’re looking at in black and white then you can try and budget for it (and give you an incentive to cut back on your usage)

This section on what to do if you simply can’t afford to pay is worth a look too.

If you get time then the money saving expert website has so much good stuff on there. Everything from budget planners to benefits checkers to grocery vouchers. Well worth a look.
