Penylan Observatory.... Photos I took in early 1970's, 12" Newtonian Telescope, in Cyncoed Gardens opposite end of gardens to Water Tower. There were three buildings, the observatory, lecture room and old war time building. Outside the Observatory grounds was a meteorological Weather Station. All that remains now at this site is the lecture room converted into a residential house named The Observatory.

In 1898 construction workers employed by the Great Western Railway can be seen building the Rumney Railway Bridge over the River Rhymney. Two more images show the bridge in 2021.

The underground urinals on the Hayes, a listed building, don’t know if they are still there and in use???

Haven't used them in a long while but a few years ago they were in use but you had to ask at the kiosk above for a code for the lock.

Actually, these 'fields' look like allotments. With little garden sheds/huts.

There were three buildings, the observatory, lecture room and old war time building. Outside the Observatory grounds was a meteorological Weather Station. Myself and a friend used to go there in the '60s when the guy that ran it had a party of visitors. We used to set up the telescope on something interesting while he was giving talk to the visitors. There was a clockwork motor that worked on weights that went down a big hole just under the scope. It worked well but one of the cogs was missing a tooth so every so often as you were looking through the lens, the telescope would jump. The ladder in the picture is lot more substantial than the ladder I remember. And, I think, the 'war time' building you mention, in the '60s was the communication centre for the Civil Defence.
