The location of The Ten Acre Field, Cardiff painted by Alexander Wilson is hardly recognisable today but was the area near Moira Terrace,. Adamsdown Cemetery & Chapel, Howard Gardens. and the perimeter wall of Cardiff Prison. The towers of St Mary the Virgin Church at Bute street can be seen on the left hand side of the painting.

The remaining Gas Holder from Ferry Road Gasworks, now stands next to IKEA, and is Grade II listed.
Built in 1881, it consists of 16 cast iron Doric columns with cornices in the style of 15th Century Florentine architecture.Originally chambers would rise and fall on tracks that ran up and down the outer metal framework. As the gas was pumped in, the chamber would rise. When gas was being used, the chamber would fall.

The Carlton,Queen street. Opened in the 1890s, by R.E.Jones, it was sadly bombed during the blitz and never reopened.It was demolished in the 1950s and replaced by BHS.

Sad thing is, I remember the first photo, everything being demolished to build the shopping centre, then the ice rink, then demolishing everything again :old:
