He used to walk, from Newport, to Roath Park, play baseball in front of huge crowds like this, albeit earlier than the 50’s, then walk home again.
He got selected to play for Wales, before being forced to quit through injury.

An old photo showing the Glamorganshire Canal and Lock gates at Llandaff North near Cardiff. ( It took 4 years to build the Glamorganshire Canal. Starting in 1790, with an army of navigators with picks and shovels. The 25-mile-long canal had 50 locks and dropped 165m (about 500 feet) from Merthyr Tydfil to Cardiff.)

They had a phone book for virtually every town in the UK in there, the telegram boys and their motorbikes were based in the underground car park
