I was just posting an article I saw that I thought might have been of interest to those reading this thread.

Reform just being populist. Don't agree with what Labour are saying, and would prefer a discussion.

Banning and blocking the Internet never works. Using it to collate information is the danger.

Imagine being wrongly accused of a sexual crime, and your Internet viewing history being brought up as evidence. It may even have happened.

The person attacked fits google searches that this man has made.

Imagine being blacklisted for holding certain political views. Plenty were in the 80s.

When people, ie Governments, have lots of data, these things tend to happen.... it gets leaked. It gets misinterpreted. They use the data to mould the situation.

All the while, we don't know as a country how many people are living or working here on expired visas

If 350000 people signed a petition asking for the act to be strengthened, Reform would support it.

Reform tell people what they want to hear.

The fact is the genie is out of the bottle now. Even repealing the act won't undo the mechanisms now in place.

Exactly, where was the petition in 2023? Where was the social media meltdown?
A lot of what I'm seeing is storm being whipped up by the usual concerned citizens now the stable door has closed in order to profit from outrage.

Some truth in that but you also have to be realistic and acknowledge a lot of people aren't bothered by an existential threat but are very annoyed when it becomes real and it is more encompassing than original coverage and discussion suggested.

Of course populists are exploiting it - that's their MO.

I think it's an example of Labour protecting are kids. Of course it's nonsense, just as it is when Reform do it on asylum seekers.
