The jury in the trial of former Manchester United player Ryan Giggs has been discharged.
The 48-year-old denied headbutting ex-partner Kate Greville, 38, during a row at his home in November 2020.
He also denied controlling behaviour, as well as assaulting Ms Greville's sister Emma, 26, at Manchester Crown Court.
Giggs was Wales manager until he resigned in June and played for Manchester United.

So is that him in the clear?
Yes and No.
No decision was reached by the jury so therefore it's up to CPS if they want to take the case to a retrial.
Given the evidence the alleged victim was dodgy as heck, given not finding even a majority verdict in this case, wouldn't surprise me if CPS drop it.
At this time, he remains innocent of all charges.
Shit joke. They didn't acquit.

As I said, it's now in CPS hands to determine if they want to take it to a re-trial.
All the original one showed was that Giggs was an arsehole and the alleged victim made an unconvincing witness with plenty of discrepencies and inconsistencies.
Not sure what happens if the same thing occurs in the "extra time" trial - go to pelanties?
Technically, not innocent, but not found guilty or not guilty of the charges. Even if the charges are dropped, that doesn't "prove" innocence. It is only inferred.

The innocent until proven guilty philosophy is a bit of a misnomer in reality these days as the accusations will hang around unless proven otherwise.

Of course the allegations will hang around, that's the difference between legal status and public perception though.
CPS will have to take a look at the evidence they provided, rebuttals and evidence from the defence and test if it's both in the public interest to have a re-trial and that there's a reasonable chance of conviction - "realistic prospect of conviction" for each charge. Having gone through one trial, they may well re-evaluate on the chance of conviction.
Guilty of being an arsehole for sure.
Whenever prosecution witnesses “accidentally drop their phone into the sea”, or misplace it somehow leading to crucial evidence being omitted from any trial, you tilt an eyebrow, and be sceptical.
Don't forget "recreating photo for the media" to get the media off her back, complaining that the photographer used a "shit photo" but on the bright side, it looked "more realistic".
Or the claiming to have cancerous cells from a smear test whilst actually having her coil removed and then having unprotected sex with Giggs.
Or the "going to get something out of this" comment.
