Taking the knee

I think he was a bit of a twat for the Game of Thrones reference and he could've definitely worded his answer better, but I wouldn't want to feel obliged to kneeling down.

Apart from the fact that I'd need a couple of strong men to lift me up again, I'd only kneel in church.

The telling part of his explanation is the subordination reference which tells you everything you need to know about Raab’s understanding of race

At the very very best it shows that he gives so little shit about it that he has no idea why people are doing it and cannot be fucked to find out

Only hearing about the Rashford campaign that day, calling him Daniel Rashford, thinking it was bending the knee from GoT. It makes you wonder what kind of bubble they exist in.

Yeah, my understanding of it was that during the American National Anthem, some American football players would take a knee as a sign that they wouldn't support the country that oppressed them?

Over here, kneeling means something completely different, and I suspect a large percentage of British people don't understand the American context.

It's starting to feel like the whole clap the NHS thing - started out as a spontaneous and emotional reaction and slowly turned into something that people felt obliged to do or, worse imho, a chance to act up for the news crews.

Social media does this to everything these days

Don’t know whether to laugh or cry at that tbh.

Do you think the Tory Party have a message board somewhere and they have a weekly competition to see who can get the biggest mare into the press?[/
I understand it’s relevance in the US, but what was the reason behind it last night
sorry should have added ? At the end of sentence:thumbup:

Yes and no, Colin kaepernick started doing it in protest against police brutality against black people, he got absolutely slaughtered for it and lost his job, the problem I see is black people will just be getting employed for the sake of justification

The GoT reference was silly but otherwise he's quite within his rights to say this kneeling thing is not for him. Its not for me either

His reasoning is off though. If he understood and said it’s not for him then that’s fine. But he thinks it’s a sign of subordination and is against it for that reason. Which is sketchy.

Well it is a sign of subordination here in all fairness.

I know that but in the context of race it is an extremely sketchy thing to say, to say the least.

If we put aside the Colin Kaepernick inspired taking the knee, to many people in many countries kneeling is a sign of subordination and subjugation. Raab's grandfather was a Czech Jew who fled to Britain ahead of the holocaust. The Nazis made great symbolic use of getting their Jewish victims to kneel

Amongst the virtue signalling of the sheep its as well to remember that actions mean different things to different people and that because you don't want to kneel to anything doesn't make you a racist, a fascist or any other label people are starting to throw about

It is at the very best, a foolish thing to say in the context of the current climate.

Of that there can be no argument

I have to say, I'm not keen on this new trend of accusing people of being "nonces" just because they have a different opinion to you either.
