Coincidentally another decent boxer had the Crown either before or after Billy...Roger Pleace. Think it was before Billy

Wasn't Roger the brother of the notorious tough guy Dennis? From the docks they were, Dennis at one time was known as the toughest man in Cardiff, nobody could beat him, nice fella though.

That name vaguely rings a bell... Age wise Roger was in his late 70s when he died and that must be about 10 years ago. Would that be about right age wise?
Roger fought in the '58 Commonwealth Games

Roger had a son Gary, and maybe just a coincidence but a lad by the name of Gary Pleace was done for rucking after the home game against Villa last year.

He had a reputation on the cobbles back in the 60's and 70's, him and Johnny Latham were top dogs in Cardiff back then.

Definitely same family, there was another brother who boxed as well, can't remember his name though.

Roger was always good for a yarn..after the Crown he moved in 2 doors away from me in Llandaff North and then some years later moved again into a flat below me on Station Rd..couldnt get away from him!!

The lads name was Nathan at the Cornwall, not Gary. Seems Nathan is possibly a grandson of Roger's.
