Yep this is my take on it too.

Im pretty sure it’s not a common letter that most people would put in there.

Edit: A quick check shows that the only person that put that letter first is Melv.

I think that tells me all I need to know.

Well according to the experts online, that particular letter appears in wordle 11.9% of the time, and is ranked in the bottom 5 letters (ignoring z, x, and J)

It also doesn't appear in the all time list of best starting words, again, according to the experts

I went through October’s thread a few weeks back and did a little chart of the top five players for the month.

The results showed a big discrepancy towards one player when it came to amounts of each category. Everyone else was fairly consistent apart from one person who got many more 3’s and hardly any 5’s or 6’s compared to the other four players.,

Been compiling some stats from last months wordle.

Taken the top five participants and made a selected breakdown of their guesses.

Name. Glos. Melv. Lecter. TDA. Jim

3 guesses. 13. 21. 10. 10. 8.

5 guesses. 5. 2. 5. 6. 9.

6 guesses. 1. 0. 3. 4. 3.


A couple of stand out points for me.

The disproportionately high amount of 3’s for Melv.

The disproportionately low number off 5’s for Melv.

I’ll just reiterate what I said the other week. I can’t conclusively prove cheating but if it looks dodgy then points will be deducted. Looking at the table above shows me that last month’s points deduction was justified. From now on we’ll have an accumulative punishment system (1 point for first offence, 2 for second etc.)

People are leaving the competition due to the cheating. The only way to stop that is to clamp down on it. If that means trawling through a month‘s worth of answers then so be it.

That’s the thing though, if you’ve got a list of starter words you do seem to pick the right one very often?

Compare that with TDA who also has a list of starter words - sometimes he gets lucky, sometimes he ends up with a 5 or a 6.

Whereas I tend to use the same word most of the time - again sometimes it pays off and others I end up with a 5 or a 6.

Go back and have a look at how often you get a 5 or a 6 compared to everyone else - now it’s either extreme luck that you always seem to hit the right letters early doors or there’s an element of cheating. Fact is that you’ve been caught out previously so it’s not too much of a stretch to assume you’re cheating again.

Unfortunately if you’ve been found out before then people will be suspicious of your answers - especially when they’re as lucky as you seem to be.

Either way I’ll make my decision later.
