Shell for example are a multinational. Profits made in other countries are taxed there, yet the lefty brains trust want to tax companies endlessly.
A Shell subsidiary in say Belgium makes profits in and is taxed in Belgium accordingly, yet apparently, they should also be taxed in Britain. Utterly bonkers. Any tax system has to be fair, double taxing clearly isn't. Tax on UK profits, absolutely. Clamp down on loopholes, absolutely.
Literally what a U.K. windfall tax is. But it needs to be bigger obviously.

The point of a windfall tax is to tax them further for excess profits made, and use that money to alleviate the overall burden on working people, I.E on energy bills.
Or, using you your ridiculous example, you could use it to replace some of the tax you charge on fuel at the pump, which would reduce the cost at the pump

Do you not think 4 billion profit is excessive for an essential need? Even if they have been properly taxed as you say do you think it is not taking the piss that amount of profit for something that is so vital to the general public
It depends where the bulk of the profit lies, tbh. If you're looking at diesel and petrol at the pumps, for example, reducing Shell profits on that won't dramaticaly reduce the cost given the blk of the price is tax.
