Money saving links

All joking aside this is actually a decent thread because it’s going to be a long hard winter for lots of people especially if you have a young family and it ain’t going to be easy for many people
These 7 steps listed below have already been mentioned but are pretty easy to do and just common sense really but will save 10/15% energy
Shower for no more than 2-3 minutes
Turn thermostat down a few degrees
Use air fryer and slow cooker (both excellent gadgets by the way) instead of oven
Only use tumble dryer when absolutely necessary
Don’t leave lights on for no reason
Turn everything off at mains and don’t leave things on standby
Turn the radiators down low in any room you don’t use often
Everyone can do all these with just a little bit of thought
And as Kiffa said meal planning and maybe cutting back on expensive meat and adding more veg to meals will save you a packet:thumbup:
Also if you have a menapousal wife like me that helps keep your bed bastard boiling all the time!!!

Turning things off at the mains is surprisingly effective. I was feeling a bit chuffed when I got my electricity use down to 85 watts with everything turned off except the Router, fridge. My TV, Freesat, Soundbar all run off an extension, and all were turned off or on standby. I turned it off at the plug, and went down to 60 watts. 20 watts an hour doesn't sound a lot, but could save about £3 a month.

One other thing, turn down the temperature on washing machines - 40 is way too hot with modern machines, only worn clothes, and decent washing liquids. I go down to 30, sometimes 20, depends what is being washed. Towels I leave at 40 though. Always give the clothes an extra spin before putting them out to dry in the autumn/winter.... and definitely before putting them in the dryer.

One ex-girlfriend who was living with me put the dryer on to dry towels one morning before I went to work. It was still running when I got home. I thought the tumble dryer had packed in, but when I saw her putting towels in to dry a week later - they were still really wet and she basically overloaded the dryer. 6 bastard hours, and the towels were still damp. :hehe:

Little tool here to show how much your energy bills will be for the next few months based n your usage over the past year.

Obviously it’s not good reading but at least if you know what you’re looking at in black and white then you can try and budget for it (and give you an incentive to cut back on your usage)

This section on what to do if you simply can’t afford to pay is worth a look too.

If you get time then the money saving expert website has so much good stuff on there. Everything from budget planners to benefits checkers to grocery vouchers. Well worth a look.

Great tool. I based mine on monthly usage last year - so have a rough budget month on month.

I did mine using my annual usage. Says my bill will be going up 64% - luckily it’s just the two of us in a small new build house so even with the rise it’s ‘only’ up to £1550. Obviously that’ll be going up again in January though.

I dread to think what my bill would have been in my previous house which was massive, old and permanently freezing.

The oven is electric. I come back from work and the kitchen is like a sauna. To be fair to them, they’re think as shit. :hehe:
Fairplay, I could not cope with that, get the fuck out of my kitchen :nope::hehe:

Don’t get me started on them always coming into the kitchen and getting in my way when I’m cooking. One of the cheeky bitches even took my rice out of the microwave (in the middle of cooking), heated a yogurt for her brat and just left my half cooked rice on the side. They don’t eat cold food. Even ice cream is stored at room temperature! Fucking wierd!
One month, two weeks and 3 days until they go!:warnock:

I bet you'll be glad to have your place back to yourself.

Can’t you just put them with the others in the garden?

It’s not like anyone will come looking for them.

I’ve been tempted on a few occasions over the past four months.

That's a long time, even relatives bugger off after a week or two :hehe:
It feels much longer. Imagine complete strangers coming to share your home who are absolutely nothing like how they described themselves to you before you agreed to sponsor them. Oh, and a devil child who torments your dog constantly during the last two months of his life, when he’s not damaging your property or attacking any other child within a 10 metre radius of him.

Apart from that though, how's it going? :hehe:

Sounds like a nightmare, I was thinking about Bear when you mentioned them earlier and wondering if it bothered him having them there, sounds like it did.

I had to constantly keep the kid away from him because he would try and punch and kick him at every opportunity. Luckily Bear was completely chilled at home but there’s only so long he would’ve tolerated it before ripping his throat out. His mother just laughs at his bad behaviour.
