The move up a division is difficult even below the PL.Getting harder all the time. Financial leap is massive and the better players will stay clear of promoted teams unless they pay over the odds which is a risk. It may partially be a middle aged thing but everyone I know seems to agree that the Prem is going to shit and becoming very boring and predictable. Even watching some of the supposed big teams struggle isn't as funny as it should be

Completely agree but don't have faith in the board to do the necessary. We live in hope thoughThe move up a division is difficult even below the PL.
Granted that is a huge leap to the PL, but a large percentage of clubs promoted to the Championship also struggle. Planning at this stage should take that into account.
The bottom line is that we are an established Championship club with probably one of the best squads in L1 next season, even with the inevitable cull / removal of dead wood.
Getting straight back has got to be the priority, but also with an eye on having the foundation in place for being competitive once promoted.

I think we're better off with a known quantity personally. Would be a lot asking Ramsey to turn around a calamitous season in three games but apart from some extra effort the same failings were there in his tenureI hope it's Ramsey. Maybe he will realise his injury situation is not going to allow his playing career to go very far and the job becomes more attractive.
He has had time to know our shortcomings etc so hits the ground running.
He will need an assistant if Gunter leaves
