There actually was a little bit of argy bargy near the station before the game. Having had a couple in the Three Guinea's we decided to find an authentic local near the station. ChatGpt recommended The Railway Tavern in Greyfriars Road. There were a few people drinking outside and once again there was quite a police presence around the pub. As we went to cross the road to the pub, a group of three policemen approached us and asked us about the game. To be fair their manner was exemplary, but having established we were Cardiff fans they "advised" us not to go in there as it was full of nutters. So we went to another pub less than 100 yards away - The Greyfrairs - which was decent to be fair and served local ales from the Windsor and Eton Brewery. But as we were supping, there was a commotion with lots of chanting and around 50 Reading Utras were being pushed back into the Railway Tavern by the police, whist a small group of fans were waving hello in return. The Reading mob were either Ultras or were at a post funeral wake all dressed in black. When (5 pints later), we got to the ground, the same Ultras stood at the back of the stand next to the massed City fans. These idiots were young and if they actually came across any "more experienced" City fans they would have probably have had a pasting. Other than that the locals were great, as were the Reading staff and the Police.
