well BBM loves a Tryer clearly

If their respective loan clubs don't take up the options to buy for them, what would you do regarding Simic and Daland?

Daland has played 21 games this season in a struggling Dusseldorf side, averaging a 6.6 match rating per game, with five yellows and one red card to his name.

Simic has played 24 times in a mid table Karlsruhe side, getting 3 goals and 1 assist but is only averaging a 6.3 match rating. Most of his games have been off the bench however so has had limited opportunities to show himself.

The German second division is probably on a level - if not slightly better than - the Championship so I'd argue the stats should be relevant enough to be comparable. Are they worth keeping around as camp bodies, or in the case of Daland is 5 CBs too many to keep in one squad? I know with 4 CBs this season we've been a bit harem scarem at times with injuries but then again is it not worth keeping the depth we do have at the club in lieu of signing new players?

It surprised me to see they both have two years left on their contracts. What is it with us and four year contracts, are all clubs at our level so generous?
What happens next obviously depends on if both players want to come back and if BBM wants them. Did Daland want to leave or did BBM say he wasn’t getting guaranteed game time? Did he not want to play in the third tier? That may change now we’re back in the championship.

Simic is only 22 and having finally got over his injury and played a full season in Germany I would be surprised if BBM wasn’t interested in having him involved in pre season. At the moment it’s all guess work isn’t it.

I'm going completely off vibes here but I thought 4 year deals were industry standard when signing players in the summer and either 3.5 or 4.5 when signing in January.

If you think this new lad you're signing is the absolute tits and is going to skyrocket you up a division or two naturally you'd want to keep him locked up on a cheaper wage as long as possible, but it can obviously do you over as has happened many times to us.

Must be a difficult one to judge when bringing someone in. The players are probably pushing for long contracts too in the interests of their own financial security as well.

I guess the answer would be for BBM to speak with them and watch them train and make a call then. If they're attracting bids I'd imagine they'd probably get offloaded.

Hard to know how it works in practice but some players must be tempted by short deals if they are confident their stock will rise as being out of contract can lead to better signing on fees and wages as no fee to pay. Risky should you get a serious issue though.

If it meant it would help fund a top quality young midfielder, the like of Jordan James (I know I'm dreaming) and a striker to compete with Salech then getting a decent fee for them would be great.

I just think that if BBM doesn't see them as better than what we've got, he'd look to offload. He's been quite clear that it's about improving the squad rather than having numbers that don't necessarily improve positions

If we get decent offers, then they will be off.

Fish is a better defender, so I'd see Daland as his backup if he stays.

Simic if he stays is clear backup to Salech - we lack strikers. Luke Pearce hasn't pushed on in Academy, rest of the younger strikers lack physique imo.

There is definitely room for Simic.

Robinson will likely be leaving and we have needed a back up option for Salech for a while.

He was highly rated before coming here and as we have seen, BBM knows how to get the best out of young players.

As for Daland, I would let him go if we get a decent offer. He’s not going to get in front of Fish, Osho, or Lawlor.

Thought so too

Was he? He was bought for Kortrijk but was injured and had to return to his "parent club" who didn't really want him. Presumably with Kortrijk's relegation he couldn't go back there.

BBM had a good look pre season and let him go on loan.

Is there anything to suggest Simic is decent? Couldn't force himself in when we were pretty shit and had double yolkers like Kanga getting multiple games

Agree with that but keep Robinson.
Say what you like second top scorer and spent a lot of time on the bench.
Putting the ball in the net is what counts.
Maybe doesn't cover the ground so much but he puts the ball away.

You would have thought it would be a given that we would have had someone watching him on his loan. Didn’t we pay about €2m for him?

You'd hope they'd be actively managing his progress one way or another. Forgot he existed so assuming he hasn't been great on loan. Definitely paid a reasonable fee for him which seems a complete waste in hindsight
