As per the title really.

Since about 2000 he's probably one of my favourite managers behind probably Dave Jones and Neil Warnock.

Albeit being in a division lower but the job he's done with the restrictions upon him is as good as Jones had to do whilst selling a player a window just to stay solvent.

He's undoubtedly got faults - sticking to a rigid tactical plan despite not having the players to play it when Salech was out probably being chief among them, but with the financial and squad restrictions he's had us playing extremely impressively and especially his ability to bring through youth this season is something that hasn't happened for us in many years.

How would you rate him as a Cardiff manager, bearing in mind positives, negatives and against his fellow City managers?

This season for me has been a solid 8/10 at a minimum - maybe even a 9.

Would've been more I think with a few tweaks here and there tactically but with the restrictions upon him he's done a phenomenal job.

Maybe he's being controlled by that massive tie he had on when he got signed like some sort of Ratatouille situation.

Bit early to be making those kind of comparisons but I’d certainly argue that he’s done more, with less resources, than any other manager in my lifetime.

Difficult to say.

Even after getting rid of 15 players in summer we had one of the best squads. Goal was to get back up, so achieved that. Longer term, for me jury still out.

Positives.
Encourages passing the ball.
Bringing youngsters through.
Changing culture.
Promotion.

Negatives.
Too dogmatic to change approach.
Chopping and changing at back too often.
Overpassing, focus on possession rather than chances.
Beat up poor teams, struggled against top sides.

I think next season will be a far better test of his abilities as a manager.

@Joecity put a really good video in the match thread covering this, well worth a watch if you got 15 minutes.

We going uo again next year...ima put a tenner on the nose on it now

He has to go down as one of our best managers in 40 years. When I saw his first XI and squad on the opening day of the season it was exciting but also a little terrifying. Wasn't sure if he was brave and visionary or massively out of his depth. We've played good football with a lot of local youngsters and his signings have all performed. He's got a tune out of players who had been marginalised. He's likeable but also seems to have the steel that you need to get on board with his approach and put the work in or you don't play.

Yes it's League 1 but plenty of teams have languished here for a while and he's got us back up at the first attempt while going through a lot of changes and in a way that bodes well. Let's hope he's backed so that he can have a proper crack at the Championship.

There is room for improvement but that's to be expected from a young manager.

We ripped Deadpool FC apart with pace and movement - and they are just outside playoffs.

We need to recruit, need to cut out individual defensive mistakes given facing better attackers, need to get more direct at times.
It'll be interesting to see what the odds will be,

His style has been great when it's worked, when it hasn't, he's lacked a plan B. We've been calling for the youngsters to play for the last few seasons- McCarthy was the last manager to trust them.

I've mentioned the lack of Plan B previously and think everyone is pretty much on the same page about that. Hopefully he'll have improved squad and evolved his tactics by August

That spine is solid. Salech is massive. Keep him fit it get a backup. Sign Trott as well. Don't need any more legs in midfield. Just a decent back up top. Some cover for Bagan. That's about it.

Could go either way - either realises needs to have that backup plan or is too dogmatic to change.

This season for me was about getting back up, I've seen encouraging things from BBM. Next season will be the acid test.

I'm sure he'd be watching our women playing the Jacks in the Welsh cup final on S4c, whereas our fanbase seem to be ignoring it ;)

That plan A will suit the championship better.

Could defo go either way but mission achieved and he's earned a chance to show what he can do next season. I reckon we're destined for midtabble but how comfortable it is will depend on how well backed he is.

Let's hope so, part of me thinks that's true but another part is worried that if more limited teams can tactically outmanoeuvre us then plenty of Championship teams can

Maybe, maybe not.

Teams will just low block, look to counter having seen it work against us in League One. We need to adapt at times - hopefully, this season will have been just getting the basics in place, next season opening things up.
If the low block was so effective against us, how come we only lost 8 games?
