I’m not a prolific away fan, but done my fair share of travelling around the country supporting the City like I’m sure many on here have.

What’s your favourite and worst ever away trip with the mighty Bluebirds?

My favourite, after all these years is still Scunthorpe in 93. Depending on who you believe there were anywhere between 4 and 6000 of us up there, taking up three sides of the ground and making it to all intents a home game. The motorway and services just seemed to be a sea of blue and people doing ayatollahs out of thier windows, and when we got up there we sang from the first minute to the last. What a day out. And that was just a couple of weeks after another memorable trip up to Wrexham. What a way to end my first proper season supporting the city.

I don’t have any really bad ones, never had my head kicked in or anything so my worst is quite mediocre, a trip to Charlton for a 0-0 draw under Russel Slade on a bitterly cold day in February. One of those games when question your sanity.

Favourite was beating Oldham 7-1. Had some great trips to Bristol City and Millwall. Most trips a good laugh TBF. Both my trips to Reading have been tidy. First away win after multiple efforts and then watching promotion be confirmed a few weeks back.

Swansea away league cup was shit. Took ages to go 40 miles and back and Dave Jones didn't put a team out to genuinely try and win the game. Peterborough 4 all was a nightmare. Long coach journey with an incompetent driver in bad conditions and throwing away a four nil lead

You were at the infamous 4-4? I remember vividly listening to that game in disbelief on Radio Wales in my kitchen, they scored the winner in injury time too didn’t they. What a bloody miserable trip home that must have been.

4-4 draw with injury time winner?

Brighton away boxing day left from Ninian Park same time as the players Robin Friday in his flaired jeans with holes in them and his boots in a carrier bag.We got stuffed 5-0 if I recollect Peter Sayer scoring for them to run salt in to the wounds .

Surely the worst awayday were the Wembley finals?
Yeah I was going to say not counting cup finals. As it goes I wouldn’t count the FA or League cup finals as being amongst the worst, as just being there was a dream come true for most. Definitely the Blackpool game though. Gutted leaving that game. Got sunburn on my head too.

Southampton in 2019 is still hands down my favourite. Genuinely believed we could stay up that year after that game.

Worst one was Cov in 2021, first time we went on a supporters bus that wasn’t the pop and crisps bus, was picked up an hour and a half late, in a bus that had a massive Newport County badge on the side, got the game 20 mins late at which point we were already 1-0 down and that’s how it finished too, also didn’t get home till about 3am because the driver was fucking cack.

Without doubt Blackpool at Wembley other than that Leeds as 15 year old in the 70's had a good shoeing along with quite a few others 🐦🐦💙

It was Liverpool for me. I know we didn't expect to win but we came so close and following on from the other two I was almost suicidal. Not keen on going back there.

As said Peterboro 4-4 was a bad one. I was one of the two designated drivers that day. It was cold, very cold. Watched it stone cold sober. 4-0 up and cruising to hanging on for a draw :hehe:

Not sure about the best as the rose specs take over. I remember winning 5-0 or 5-1 at Fulham late 80's/early 90's. Always a good trip anyway but that was a special one.

Also the 4-1 drubbing of Wolves at their ground in about 88 when they were top of the 4th and I think we were second. The walk back to the station wasnt so great mind.

Another angle...games you missed and wished you hadnt. I was in Tenerife when Andy Campbell scored the play off winner :mare:

Best atmosphere Leeds 2002,favourite game play off final 2003 and the loudest I've heard Cardiff the half hour after the Barnsley game 2008 🐦🐦🐦

Yup. Everyone on the coach was miserable and the driver was useless and dangerous

Just remembered the worst though, Hull on Earth 26 odd years ago. Travelled from the Midlands - all 3 trains were late. Got there half an hour late even with a taxi. Loads of security and checking everything including under phone batteries for blades made me think it's a bit dodgy up here, then a bunch of Hull nutters were trying to blag their way into our end. Get into terrace and it's weird - not many City and quiet - on both sides there are Hull fans angrily threatening City fans and casually throwing Nazi salutes. Bobby Gould picks a hopeless team with players out of position including I think Leo on the wing. City score two own goals and play like shit but game was over before we arrived.

Rumours abounding that all battle busses intercepted and prevented onwards travel which seemed plausible as City numbers severely down and all looked like 'civilians' and not part of that big hooligan following we had at the time. After the game loads of Hull fans trying to get at us, shooting fireworks at us. Police did a great job protecting City fans to the busses to be fair but then we have to leave cordon and run the gauntlet. So ropey we went to a B&Q called a taxi from a payphone and waited there until it got there. We're finally relaxing in the cab and then some nutters decided we're not local and tried to storm the cab. We had a female driver who was thankfully pretty switched on and saved the day by driving through a red light to escape. Was fine after that. What a sketchy shithole. I ain't ever going back. Not never

I missed that play off final too as I was also out of the country. Had to listen to it in an 24 hour internet cafe (remember them?) full of Japanese teenage gamers. The look of confusion on their faces when I suddenly jumped up yelling yeeeeeeaaaaaahhhs!
:hehe:

Agree with scunthorpe away and the whole of that season there were some tremendous away followings with nearly 4000 at southend on a Friday night. Worst for me travelling to Carlisle on a tuesday for a night game for it to be called off an hour before kick off.
